President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has responded to comments by former President John Dramani Mahama regarding the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
There were series of violence during the by-elections which resulted in a bloody shooting incident.
About eight electorates sustained various degrees of gun-shot wounds after some faceless security personnel brutally attacked them at the Bawaleshie Presby polling station.
This led to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) boycotting the elections.
Reacting to the brutal attacks on NDC members during the elections, former President John Mahama on Thursday issued a stern warning to the ruling New Patriotic Party stressing “we are not going to joke in 2020 and I’m sounding a warning to the NPP – we are going to match them boot for boot . . .”
“NDC has revolutionary rules and that when it comes to unleashing violence, nobody can beat us in unleashing violence; it is just that we midwifed Ghana’s democracy and so we must be the first to respect Ghana’s democracy and that is why we are acting as a party that is very docile and respecting the rule of law but if we believe that the government cannot protect our people…then we would have to advise ourselves,” he added.
In a quick riposte to the former President's comments, President Akufo-Addo, whiles condemning Mr Mahama for seemingly inciting NDC members, pointed out that his government's policy is to "liberate the energies of the people for the growth of a property-owning democracy in this land, with right to life, freedom and justice as the principles to which the Government and laws of the land should be dedicated in order specifically to enrich life, property and liberty of each and every citizen".
" . . It is important also to state that the New Patriotic Party, the party from which my Government was born, would never dream of competing with any other political party in unleashing violence on the Ghanaian people. The Ghanaian people have, again, demonstrated to the world their deep attachment to the principles of democratic accountability and the rule of law. Ghana’s democracy is robust, and will only grow from strength to strength," he further stated in a Facebook post today.

I'm yet to see a hypocrite of a president like Nana Addo. Has he so soon forgotten his "All-die-Be-die" call? In any case, under whose watch and command were these hooliganistic miscreants dressed as National Security Forces? Are you telling us that you were not given briefing by your security capos on the security arrangements for the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election? How dare you create a situation and then turn around to play innocence. "You can ***barred word*** some people sometime, but can't ***barred word*** all the people all the time" - Robert Nesta Marley.
I wonder how people forget so soon. Look what didnt the NDC do in Kyereponi? What didnt Nii Lantey Vanderpuye do in Kantamanto. Dont people remember Ahafo Ano South? Even within NDC what didnt Sam George do to E. T. Mensah. If they are paid a little in their own coin then people are crying wolf. Let NDC smell pepper a little. One good turn deserves another.
I hear the incompetent one is at Volta region bragging all his 18 children are schooling in Dubai. Go and bring them to fight for you in 2020.
All die be die and y3n akan fo) is democratic. The problem is u see some people to be stooooped to be following what ever u say
See the way Mahama talks honestly. NPP and Nana Addo speak one thing and do otherwise. All the Ayawaso violence will come to naught in 2020. Bring back Peace, Development and Growth. ... Bring Back JOHN MAHAMA.
President Akuffo Addo only responds to John Mahama. Akuffo Addo has nothing to say at any time. 2020 is just around the corner. Our thumps are waiting to show NPP the exit. All Hail JOHN MAHAMA!
Should it take Mahama to speak before the president of the country addresses this issue. His statement is just a reaction to Mahama's statement. Nothing reassuring or encouraging.Same old NPP tricks. They always want to look like the sad victims.
Hypocrisy at its peak. Nana never practices what he preaches. The BIG Question is why dress up Vigilante groups in Uniform and allow them to use state vehicles. No one is safe in this country anymore.
This is how a statesman speaks. Sometimes I wonder how Ghanaians allowed NDC headed by Mahama to run the country.
