Member of Parliament for Bia East Constituency in the Western Region, Richard Acheampong says the Mahama administration was truthful to Ghanaians about the state of the economy unlike Akufo-Addo’s government.
He added that the NDC in government explicitly told Ghanaians that “we are in tough times and that is why we said we were scrapping teacher and nurses training allowances”.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Richard Acheampong said inasmuch as the NDC was truthful to Ghanaians, Mahama's government used the scrapped allowances of teachers and nursing trainees to build schools, Chip compounds and hospitals in order to employ them after graduation.
“We were truthful to them; we did not deceive them that we will give them allowances and employment as well when they graduate, but now from last year September till date, nursing training allowances have not been paid,” he asserted.
He said that if government will show remorse and openly tell the good people of Ghana that they got it all wrong and beg Ghanaians to support the nation, the Akufo-Addo government can win the sympathy of Ghanaians.
He reminded that all Ghanaians including the Minority in Parliament are seeking for the development of the country and so will be willing to assist the government to appreciate the falling Cedi, but added that “if they want to portray as if they know while they don’t know, then they will not get the sympathy they look for”.

This is the same attitude you showed during Pres Kuffour administration. You deceived Ghanaians to take power from progressing economy, only to come and destroy the foundation laid by Kuffours's govt. after your opposition to the NHIS, you turned to promise a one-time premium. and what did we see? You ended up living a huge debt, but for the effort of Nana Addo and his gov't, the scheme would have collapsed. You again condemned the putting up of the Jubilee Hse and even vowed to make it a poultry farm, and what did we see? Have you so soon forgotten about how you collapsed peoples business with dumsor? You know very well that this gov't has done and is doing better than you but you don't want to admit this fact. But this time, Ghanaians can not be deceived for the 2nd time. Most especially, by someone whom we all know his track record. His brother evading tax leftn & right; MPs taking double salaries; Govt project being inflated; making payments of Judgement debt to his party members as one of his projects and so on. Go and sleep somewhere. Saa na mo te3.
