Renowned Economist, Kwame Pianim, courted controversy this week when he was reported to have said that addressing the challenges of the local currency, the cedi, needs more action than mere words.
To him, addressing the fundamentals of the economy is what should grab the attention of all.
His comments comes on the heels of the Vice President’s touting of the Akufo-Addo administration’s handling of the Ghanaian economy.
At a maiden Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia used the Mahama administration as a yardstick to measure the NPP’s performance.
“The data on the annual rate of depreciation of the cedi in recent years shows that the worst performance so far under the NPP government is the 8.4 percent depreciation we saw in 2018. That worst performance is better than the best performance under the previous government between 2012 and 2016,” Dr Bawumia said.
But Mr Pianim, who was speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, said: "I am not going to contradict the Vice President. All that I am saying is that people don't eat words. They see the exchange rate reflect in their cost of living because prices will go up. Let's stop talking and focus on addressing the fundamentals....It doesn't matter which party is in power; we should stop political point scoring."
Some say his remarks are a direct dig at the Vice-President, while others argue its in tacit support of Dr Bawumia's stance.
But what do you think?

Kwame Pianim just spoke the truth! Not everything must be seen to be political. The truth is only one and at his age, he's not ready to support lies or be political. He's long past those level. He doesn't want to meet his Maker as a liar. Elders in our society must emulate Mr Pianim. JA Kufuor is a typical example, he has refused to meddle in lies or play politics because at his age he's focused on putting his house in order when he meets his Maker. Gray hair is a crown of glory and wisdom.
