Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has reneged on his earlier stance not to honour an Accra High Court order to appear in a case brought against him by the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.
The court, Tuesday morning, presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, asked lawyers of the MP who is standing trial for tax evasion and procurement allegations, to make him available to the court by 1:00 pm when he had failed to show up.
But at the time, Mr. Ayariga was in parliament filing an application for a determination on whether or not MPs can be summoned by a court of law on sitting days, a development which eventually led to the suspension of sitting.
While Parliament was on suspension and waiting for the Speaker to make a determination, Ayariga moved out of parliament premises in the company of some colleague MPs heading to the court.
Checks at the court confirmed that Mr. Ayariga indeed went to the court and was in fact seated at the court waiting for the judge to come for case to resume.
The speaker eventually ruled on the matter noting he has released Mr. Ayariga for the court but cautioned that MPs should not be served suits when parliament is in session.

You spear headed former Member of Parliament for Bawku Central imprisonment and you want what? My friend go to court and defense yourself
Ayariga is the most arrogant of all the MPs. Since his statement on the floor of Parliament " if you say I should apologise, I apologize" I have watched him and marked him as a person with superior airs about himself. He went to Harvard and so what? So was the late Vice-Prez Arkaah and others. We want solutions to our Problems as a Country and it doesn't really matter if the Person who bring these answers come from Tebeso, Likpe, Sumrungu, Kookyikrom or Bodwesango Secondary School. You are unfortunately using your political elitism to reverse the growth and development of this Country. Some of those who claim to have attended Ivory Tower Universities around the world are the same who come back to steal from the Coffers of the state with their knowledge. Enough of your arrogance!
Ayariga, now you see your smoothness level!! Why should the Speaker even caution courts not to summon MPs during parliamentary proceedings. If an MP is indicted in a criminal case, is he above the law because he is sitting (and dozing) in parliament?? We still have a long way to go.
Mr Ayariga the super MP, I am disappointed that despite your bluff you borrowed the speed of Usian Bolt and ran to court. Why didn't you sleep on the floor of parliament for the rest of your life? I blame no one but we voters. We are in a country where ***barred word*** will instruct state agencies including the courts. Decency has been thrown to the dogs indeed, otherwise some people on earth could never dream of calling themselves dishonourables, oh sorry honourables let alone acting same.
I have said this over and over again and will continue repeating it, that there are some elements in the NDC who maintain that by virtues of their academic qualification and mere being able to articulate themselves well in the Queen's language they have the tenet of a politician and can just assume themselves so. Those elements of the NDC I'm referring to are those who rose from campus mock politics to Ministers of state. And they are those their founder referred to as babies with sharp teeth in terms of lying and insulting their way out without substance and thoughtful political message. I guess, a prominent Ghanaian Lawyer had made a referrence to a precedence which dealt with similar case by law and Mr. Ayariga is better adviced to be guided by it. The insolence and the sharp teeth posture is here not advisable.
THIS IS A CLASSIC CASE OF "BOOTH FOR BOOTH". Now Ayariga knows that flat*ulence cannot be used to fan fire. His boastful radio talks didn't get anywhere. NA-NIA-MA!
NAA NIA MAA. WHO BORN DOG. HE THINK HE IS ABOVE THE LAW. YOU GO RUN GO. NO BODY GO FORCE YOU
So did NDC say that SP has no job.
I am really happy with the high court Judge ruling of *by 1:00pm.* We need such kindl of timelines. Im really unhappy with Judges who keep postponing cases. we only have 24hours in a day so we must make use of it productively, not even wisely but productively.
THIS IS MATCHING YOUR BLUFF AGAINST THE STATE! kW3333!
