Director of Human Resource at the Ministry of Health, Dr Akwasi Asabir has described nurses at the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College as “ungrateful” health practitioners.
His comment comes after videos and photos in which some students of the training college were seen chanting “JM we’re sorry”.
The students stormed the rally grounds at Nalerigu on Day two of former President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Northeast region, clad in their school uniforms and NDC paraphernalia to “beg” the NDC flagbearer to come back to power.
The purpose of the tour was for John Mahama to interact with the Chiefs, opinion leaders, community members and executives of the NDC in the various constituencies.
But the students, numbering about a hundred stormed the rally grounds holding placards that read, “JM we're sorry, nurses’ need you back” and “Ghana Economy is in coma”, and knelt before the former president amidst wailing.
Dr Akwasi Asabir who was speaking on the issue on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ noted that management of the school have rendered an apology to government for the ‘uncultured’ behavior of their students.
He said the school “do appreciate what government is doing for them” – and described the students act us “unfortunate”.

how can upcoming nurses behave like fooools the school authorities should examine their mental status else as they took monies from MAHAMA AND NDC to stag such act they will surely take money from criminals to sell babies and human parts after completion, please the authorities should check their criminal records asap
IF THESE STUDENTS BY FAR SPEND THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE THEIR COURSES,THEN I DON'T BELIEVE THESE NURSES WERE IN SCHOOL DURING THE 2016 ELECTION. ALL THOSE IN SCHOOL AT THE TIME OF THE ELECTION HAVE COMPLETED SCHOOL. I THINK THE LAST BATCH SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED THEIR COURSES IN LAST MAY.SO MY QUESTION IS; WHERE WERE THESE STUDENTS IN 2016? IF THEY WERE NOT PART OF NURSES WHO VOTED AGAINST THE NDC,WHERE FROM THAT APOLOGY? THE STUDENT HAVE NOT EVEN COMPLETED THEIR COURSES, SO WHY ARE THEY REQUESTING FOR POSTINGS NOW?
Please top peddling falsehood.. Please Government has paid their allowances..Propaganda will not help u because the truth will always conquer lies.. Are they the only nurses in this country..why are the other nurses not complaining of payment..Lets assume that Government is owing them which one is better and in other cases their Government says am cancelling it? Please tell us which one is better
Northerners are generally ungrateful! Just cut them off any allowance!
IN FACT JM WE ARE SORRY. LET THEM TAKE ME FROM THE ALLAWA

For me, this is a very simple matter. Government has decided to give allowances to support trainee nurses in their studies. Some trainee nurses have said that they do not want the allowances anymore. Simply, cut allowances to that school and continue with the rest of the trainees in other schools across the country. But the unfortunate issue will be that not all students of Nalerigu Nursing School were involved in this shameful and staged act by the NDC. So, in effect, what will happen will be that those who were not involved will fish out those involved and appropriate sanctions meted out to them including cutting their allowances which they have unequivocally stated they do not want anymore. The NDC though should know that these infantile tactics do not work anymore. Just tell the people the truth and they will decide whether or not they will vote for you. Peddling obvious untruths like these make some of us annoyed since we cannot be deceived which we consider belittling of our intelligence.
Where they wearing mofti when bawumia and nana addo visited them and promised to restore thier allowance. for over 6 months now, they have not received a dime and you expect them to clap for the government?
JUST SACK THESE ETHNOCENTRIC FULLLS BECAUSE OUR LIVES WILL BE IN DANGER WHEN THEY EVENTUALLY BECOME TRAINED NURSES.
@Yaw please with all due respect this is the highest form of ungratefulness.. God will punish every nurse who was involved in this.. How ungrateful can one be.. Somebody has given u employment and also given u your allowance and u call the person a bad person and the person who took this privileges from u a gud person..Amazing.. This a typical example of the Israelite in the wilderness.. God please forgive us
