General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says President Akufo-Addo brought the name 'clearing agent' upon himself when he openly announced that his 'men are clean' when investigations about corruption was yet to be carried out by Parliament.
"If he is now saying that he forwards every corruption scandal to institutions, then he wants to be called a 'freight forwarder' rather than 'clearing agent', we will give it to him,” he mocked.
According to him, the Australian visa scandal of which President Akufo-Addo set free then Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide with the explanation that he was not involved in the visa scandal but failed to expose the culprit after accepting that there was wrongdoing shows that the President is a 'clearing agent'.
“The government cleared Enam Hadzide in the Australian visa scandal and do you think the government will tell the truth to Ghanaians. The government said he [Enam Hadzide] is not involved and yet it did not state who was involved in the visa scandal after the government admitted the scandal took place . . . the President then moved him to the Ministry of Information. Do you think people will believe him if he gives information to the public?” he asserted.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NDC Chief Scribe maintained that President Akufo-Addo cannot escape the tag of being a 'clearing agent' as he was the one who cleared Pius Enam Hadzide through the people who investigated the visa scandal.
“I think the President is living in another world and I sympathize with him . . . those around him are not telling him the truth and they only tell him things they want him to hear . . . I pray for him, because, the happenings in the country disgust every Ghanaian; every week, there is one corruption scandal in Akufo-Addo's government,” he slammed.
He was of the view that the decision of the Ghana Bar Association to choose corruption as its theme for their conference should be enough for President Akufo-Addo to realize the height of corruption in the country and how deep it is eating into the public purse.
“The Ghana Bar Association didn’t just choose the theme for their conference to discuss it but rather they looked at the happenings affecting the country . . . So the fact that the Ghana Bar Association chose a theme on corruption shows that it has become problematic in the country,” he indicated.
