The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has arguably claimed that the number of children enrolled in Senior High Schools under the reign of the late President Atta Mills was more than the number of students who have been enrolled in schools since the introduction of the Free SHS Policy by President Akufo-Addo.
He explained that when former President John Agyekum Kufuor introduced the four-year education system in the Senior High Schools, the total number of schools available then for the implementation of that new policy could cater for three years and that made it difficult for those coming from the JHS to join in the next academic year, and so it took the late President Mills to build school blocks in all the available secondary schools in the country to cater for the JHS graduates.
“ . . we built extra classroom blocks throughout the country in all the existing SHSs . . . we admitted more children in secondary schools than the number admitted under Akufo-Addo's Free SHS Policy . . . check the figures, but we didn’t noise about it,” he asserted.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NDC General Secretary said the challenge with the free Senior High School policy is about the management of the policy and not the educational system.
“Did you hear any parent complaining that their children didn’t get access to school in September when we took over the four-year policy from former President Kufuor?” he rhetorically asked.
He was of the view that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a political party does not believe in free education and free health as a member of the neoliberals in the world; thus, the implementation of the free Senior High School has not been successful due to the fact the NPP does not believe in it.
“If someone is implementing a policy which his party does not believe in, but for mere votes from the citizens, he will be exposed during the implementation stage. All over the world, the neoliberals which NPP is part of do not believe in free education. Peter McManu had been their Vice President before as I am the Vice President of Socialist International; they don’t believe in free education, free health but when they came and realized that such policies will give them votes, then they adopt it, but during the implementation, they are being exposed,” he asserted.

Is this man correct upstairs ? Why are you media giving him so much air time? Why is he on rampage talking of free SHS like that? Which data is he talking about from his bedroom? And you allow him to get away
Simple! You claim to believe in two socially critical policies (Health & Education) yet did not even have the idea to introduce them, can turn round to tell us that some people do not believe in these policies yet these same people have successfully implemented them, then I guess this man is MMADDDDD. What logic is this one?
Mr. General Mosquito! because you wana be considered for the Vice Pee candidature that is why you are disgracing yourself. A party who don't understand free SHS would introduce it? Massa! stop disgracing yourself and reason like a grown person. Mind you! Ghanaians are more discerning as a result of freedom in education
NDC has a deficit in realizing the important role an Opposition can play in Governance. Let alone appreciate, have the competence to apply the tools and the ideals at their disposal to run a genuine political party opposition business. Opposition politicking is for the NDC, spewing lies and creating falsehood to make the opponent look bad and incredible. Policy formulation and adopting alternative policies to counteract that of the opponent are alien to the NDC opposition-politicking. That notwithstanding, NDC is c going to lose the 2020-election abysmally.
NDC Paa. See the pot calling the kettle black
Where did former Pres Rawlings get these people from to form the NDC. He would be regretting by now. What kind of video logic is this. I am sure general has problem with maths. Pls give us statistics was.
This show how ndc are st*upid foo00*00ls or are confused! no wonder they never brought any interventions but destroyed what the npp brought.Ndc gyi*mie is sickening ! After 2024 Ghana will have another opposition party managed by kritical thinkers which will allow Ghanaians to make informed decisions and choose competent people to rule Ghana. After 2024 ndc will be renamed and reshuffled with mahama ,Asiedu Nketiah and their executives reduced to the floor the new party will be unattractive to fo00*ools like as the npp is unattractive to idi*ots I know so many of them will retire because they may not be needed in that party when sensible and kritical thinkers take over. Ghana need an opposition that can be an option but not this ndc led by John mahama! Nkwasea*sem ne Nkwa*sea akeka nkoaa!
Dr. Bawumia, come for your stone. Aaaah.. its true NDC doesn't read! What a shame. Even Satan knows Gen is lying.
Woaaa look at this concert argument. If you admitted more students than NPP and you were able to put up enough structures to contain your larger numbers as you claim then how come the same enough structures cannot even contain even the smaller number of students thereby calling for a double track system. You see what your propaganda is leading you? Propaganda will always make you put up illogical argument.
This man is trying to break a rock with an egg. The Free SHS is causing sleepless nights for NDC.
