The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has slammed former President John Dramani Mahama, for comparing himself as a better manager of Ghana’s economy to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, all the economic indicators measuring the success of the economy in the country makes former President John Mahama the worst Manager of the economy.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' morning show, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu mentioned that the 3.7 percent GDP growth rate in 2016 was the worst in 20 years recorded under former President Mahama.
“The GDP growth rate that President Mahama left behind in 2016 was 3.7% and this GDP growth rate was the worst GDP Ghana had for 20 years and it is unprecedented. This is the track record of former President Mahama. But when Akufo-Addo took over the government in 3 years, the GDP growth rate is now 7.3% on the average . . . in the first year, the GDP reached 8.5% which was the 3rd highest growth rate in the world. So who is the best manager of the economy?” he asked.
He added that the inflation under the late President Mills did well when Dr. Kwabena Duffour was the Finance Minister.
According to him the inflation rate reached a single digit from the 17.5 percent under former President John Agyekum Kufuor; thus, it remained at a single digit for 20 months and former President Mahama sent it back to 17 percent.
He reiterated that the current inflation rate situation under President Akufo-Addo in 3 years is unprecedented as it is in the region of 7.6 percent, making it the first time in 30 years, the lowest single digit of inflation rate in the country.
He further revealed that the gross international reserved which indicates the strength of the economy was 3.8 billion dollars, catering for Ghanaians for 2.8 months, but then, the same gross international reserve under President Akufo-Addo is about 8 billion dollars, lasting for 4 months.

this *gutter* argument no longer holds. You should also let Ghanaians understand if any administration has won a third term in the fourth republic: NDC or NPP. Thus it is not Mahama who lost 2016 elections, it is NDC who lost it. Wait till NPP goes a third term then your argument would be acceptable. Ghanaians are now very discerning
if Mahama was so extraordinary in his achievements for this country, why did he lose 2016 elections? Rawlings and Kufour won their second terms without much sweat. In Ghana, we vote for parties to enjoy 8 years in office, not individuals. NDC, you got your 8 years from 2009 to 2016. To tell you the truth, NPP will surely enjoy 8 years before NDC could come again. I think, Rawlings told you to forget about 2020. Take him serious. NDC, you are just making a fetish out of Mahama who wants to hijack your party for his personal gain. Think of NDC as a party, not Mahama as a person. My friendly advise to you. Take it or leave it.
YES, I AGREE THAT THE CONVERSATION SHOULD BE BASED ON WHAT EACH OF THE TWO PRESIDENTS HAVE DONE TO POSITIVELY IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF THE CITIZENS SECTOR BY SECTOR AND NOT JUST BLANKET STATEMENTS THAT NANA ADDO IS A BETTER MANAGER. LET US ANALYZE IT ON WHO BORROWED MORE WITHIN THE SHORTEST TIME, WHAT HAS HE USED THE MONEY BORROWED FOR IN TERMS OF NUMBER OF ROADS CONSTRUCTED, SCHOOLS BUILT, HOSPITALS, CLINICS, CHPS COMPOUND, MARKETS ETC BUILT. IT IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE TO ALL GHANAIANS THAT MAHAMA IS UNMATCHED IN THE FOURTH REPUBLIC WHEN IT COMES TO INFRASTRUCTURE. THE MAJORITY LEADER SHOULD COME OUT AND TELL GHANAIANS WHAT NANA ADDO HAS DONE SO FAR USING THE BENCHMARKS LISTED ABOVE TO BE CONSIDERED A BETTER MANAGER.WE ALL KNOW THAT FREE SHS IS YOUR ONLY ACHIEVEMENT. THE 2020 ELECTION CAN NOT BE WON WITH LIES AND DECEIT AGAIN.
Hahahaha. Mr. Mensah, you're afraid of Akuffo Addo. The truth is John Mahama did very well, far better than Akuffo Addo. Under Mahama, petrol was GHC12, under Akuffo Addo it's GHC26 Kenkey was GHC0.50 under Mahama, under Akuffo addo it's GHC2.00 And the so called good economy today, people's money are locked up due to the recklessness of Akuffo Addo/Bawumia's misrule
Look at this one too.Apuu
You are nearly right in the sense that Mahama is rather outstanding. His management style is unmatched. Management is being able to set modest targets and delivering by them not opening your mouth so wide that you cannot even fix roads. If you cannot fix Ghanaian roads could you have rescued Ghanaians from the energy crises. Governance is business not mouth mouth
@AKOSUA, AKOSUA LET US ASSUMED AKUFFO ADDO HAD 3RD CLASS IN ECONOMICS. AT LEAST HE HAS ECONOMIC BACKGROUND AS COMPARE TO MAHAMA WHO DID HISTORY. THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN COMPARE THE TWO IN TERMS OF ECONOMICS. NANA ADDO DID ECONOMICS AND LAW. MAHAMA DID HISTORY AND COMMUNICATION. WHO WILL MANAGE THE ECONOMY WELL? WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE ECONOMY NOT HISTORY. NANA AKOSUA , MOREOVER THE THIRD CLASS IS JUST PROPAGANDA. HE IS REALLY APPLYING ECONOMICS WELL. COMPARING THE TWO, MAHAMA FAILED IN ECONOMICS THAT IS WHY HE FAILS WOEFULLY AS PRESIDENT.
The conversation should be on what the respective president has to show on his good or bad economic management. Or better, how the management impact on physical quality of life of citizens.
All Ghanaians know The President has a 3rd Class degree in Economics. You cannot ***barred word*** Ghanaians. It is rather NANA ADDO who is DESPERATE. John Mahama is coming like KAKAI. It is beyond you. Ghanaians have decided and no amount of vilification will work this time. #JDMALLTHEWAY2020
Mr. Mensah don't worry about Mahama, he is so desperate to come to power so any time he opens his mouth he puts his foot into it.
