General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has hit hard at President Nana Akufo-Addo following the latter's directive to members of his administration to undertake further engagements with stakeholders on the upcoming referendum.
The NDC Chief Scribe wondered when the President woke up from his slumber and now wants to consult broadly on the upcoming referedum process.
"...Is the President now going to do broader or further consultation? I thought John Boadu in his press conference said that they did broader consultation and some people disappointed them. Is it now that the President has remembered or when we started the referendum process, he was sleeping and now he is awake to realize that he should do broader consultations at this point?” he cynically asked.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, last week directed that Government undertakes further engagements with stakeholders on the upcoming referendum, in the wake of the controversies and what seem to be divisions that have engulfed the country, heady days to the 17 December polls to decide whether or not partisan politicians could participate in elections at the local assembly level.
As reported by The New Crusading Guide, the purpose of the engagement, according to sources at the Ministry of Information, is to seek to clear up misconceptions about the purpose of the referendum and build consensus on the way forward.
“This round of engagement shall involve His Excellency the Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Senior Minister Hon. Yaw Osafo Marfo and other Government Officials. Stakeholders such as Religious, traditional bodies, Civil Society Organizations, Journalists, etc are expected to be engaged from Wednesday, November 20, 2019,” the Information Ministry source disclosed.
But Asiedu Nketiah, speaking in an interview on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show wondered if the President had completed the process for broader consultations when he mentioned during his visit to the Volta Region that Ghanaians should vote ‘Yes’ in the December 17 referendum.
“When he stood on the soil of volta region, saying that Ghanaians should vote ‘Yes’ in the December 17 referendum, to mean that we are going to vote to elect MMDCEs, does he come from this country? At that time, has he finished his broader consultations?”
“This simply means that President Akufo-Addo does not understand the work of the referendum; together with their EC, they don’t understand the work very well and they have created their confusion, swimming in it and we are also standing aside watching them in their confusion,” he added.
The NDC General Secretary, however, pointed out that the opposition party is willing to participate in any broader engagement on the referendum as proposed by the President, if only the suggestions that will be raised by the NDC will be implemented by the government.
“We mean well for the country and if they will do the proper thing by coming back to the drawing board to discuss the referendum again genuinely and work with the suggestions we will provide, it will help the country,” he said.

In the absence of a manifesto document, the NDC is happy to divert attention to this referendum Yes/NO controversy. That's where they profit. The president should simply withdraw that document and continue to appoint the DCEs/MCEs.

Listen to the ***barred word***, calling the president a sleeping president. It's a pity that guys like Asiedu ***barred word*** Nkatia are running the affairs of the NDC party. If you, Asiedu Nkatia, do not desist from the name calling, you will be subjected to same. ***barred word***.
This Akan adage is very true, and to quote Brother Sammy, Onipa foo na woka foo
If one is looking for a clown and you go pass Dr. Bawumia the vice President of Ghana you are likely not to get one ever
Country without respect whatsoever, how can it move forward with development?
So in 2012, JDM sett up a committee to do a nation wide consultation for the election of MMDCEs and Assembly men. The committee presented its report to the president in 2015. The repot indicated that Ghanaians wants MMDCEs and Assembly men elected. A white paper was issued to that effect. Then in 2016, JDM lost elections and handed over government. In 2019, John Boadu tells us that Nana Addo has 'given his power to elect MMDCEs and Assembly men back to Ghanaians as a demonstration of his commitment to decentralization. It that how wickedly a man can steal another man's glory. Now you want the NDC to support your wicked and open show of ***barred word***. The NPP makes this whole thing their personal agenda, "the president's commitment to decentralization" and you want your political opponents to support you?? The dishonesty on the part of the NPP is the reason we are all where we are. 'create your confusion, swim in it, we'll stand by to watch you'.....Mo Gen, you blast!!!!!
Do Ghanaians still listen to this old funny guy? They are a laughijng stock to me. Not serious at all in this country. They are taken advantage of few illiterate and 11gnorant population to satisfy their personal egos. I will never take NDC serious in any intellectually minded exercise.
Everything was moving smoothly. Then NDC thought that if they take an opposing stand and the "Yes" vote is defeated in this referendum, it will somehow inure to their benefit in next year's elections. So they hurriedly come out with flimsy reasons as to why to vote "No" and are now blaming the President for not doing enough consultations. What consultations do you want? They should mark it down, this will backfire big time on them, just like the case of the Ghana card, the Dagbon issue etc. They are so desperate to get back into government that nothing else about the country is of interest to them. Anything that will benefit Ghana, so long as it will also go to the credit of Nana Addo and NPP must be opposed. That is sad.
ASIEDU NKETIA MUST KNOW THAT THERE WAS CONSULTATION AND AGREEMENT TO LARGE EXTENT. EVERYTHING CHANGED WITH THE INCONSISTENT, DECEPTION AND BETRAYAL OF NDC.
