The Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA), Mr Joe Danquah, has said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s commitment to the delivery of his campaign promises, including the One-constituency, One-million dollars policy, is not in doubt.

He said as part of the policy, various development projects were being undertaken in districts in the Middle Belt to improve lives.

Mr Danquah said this at separate meetings with metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) in the Eastern, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions in Koforidua, Kumasi and Sunyani respectively, as part of a consultative workshop of the $1million per constituency projects.

The meetings were to enable the MMDCEs to acquaint themselves with the operational mandate, strategic objectives and core functions of the MBDA.

They also discussed some of the projects being undertaken in their various districts through the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MSDI).

Projects

The projects include institutional toilets, mechanised boreholes (three in each constituency), warehouses, six-unit classroom blocks, markets, clinics and the acquisition of ambulances.

The MMDCEs were also presented with copies of the projects and those they were supposed to execute in 2020, while their strategic role in the implementation of the projects were also discussed.

It is recalled that a similar workshop was held for Members of Parliament in the zone.

Establishment of devt authorities

The MBDA was established by an Act of Parliament, Act 962, in 2017. Its core mandate is to implement Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Projects (IPEP) and other special development initiatives to ensure the accelerated growth of beneficiary communities.

In the run up to the 2016 general election, then candidate Akufo-Addo promised one million dollars for every constituency.

In that regard, the Middle Belt, Coastal and Northern Development authorities were formed to facilitate the process.

The Middle Belt consists of the Eastern, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions, with its headquarters in Kumasi.

In all, 109 constituencies fall under the authority.
