Former President HE John Dramani Mahama has charged Ghanaians "to eat what we grow" in order to improve the Agricultural sector of the economy.
According to him, eating what we grow should not only be a social obligation to our farmers but also a patriotic duty to the nation.
In a Facebook post to celebrate farmers as the country observes "National Farmers Day" today, he equally asked that adequate investment should be pumped into the Agric sector in order to enhance agricultural development and transformation
“I celebrate our gallant farmers and fishers across the country on the occasion of the 2019 National Farmers Day. To all farmers- small, medium and large scale- including back yard garden owners and investors in agro-processing and agri-business, I assure you of better years ahead."
He added that investment in Agri-business is the new level that the government needs to grow and expand in order to enhance agricultural development and transformation.
"We can generate greater interest in agriculture, especially among young Ghanaians, when they have the assurance of affordable credit facilities, ready purchase, improved pricing and value addition. This can happen when we have, among others, agro-processing set-ups around the farm gates”.
“On the occasion of the 2019 National Farmers Day, let me also remind us all that we need to eat what we grow. Eating what we grow should not only be a social obligation to our farmers but also a patriotic duty to our nation,” Mahama wrote in a Facebook post-Friday.
He also urged the government to provide adequate financial assistance to farmers so they can expand.

“This is why I established the Ghana EXIM Bank to fast track value addition, import substitution and diversification of the economy through the provision of funds for agriculture production and agro-processing. We must ensure that the Ghana EXIM Bank scales up investments in the sector”.

So OPANA is also saying some? .....that we should "eat what we grow"? Mahama never said anything close to these throughout the 8years that he was in power as president and vice. All that he knows is to repeat what others say because he cannot think and say anything novel by himself. Incompetent Nice Man (I.N.M).
CONFUSE MAN.INCOMPETENT MAHAMA, INCOMPETENT JOHN MAHAMA, INCOMPETENT NICE MAN JOHN MAHAMA PLEASE SPARE OUR EARS WITH YOUR INCOMPETENT ADVICE.
NDC celebrating Ghanaian farmers? Is Sammy Gyamfi listening as he says food production has gone down under Nana Addo's watch? Mahama and NDC are saying we should what we produce and is there food in town at all? These guys in NDC have nowhere to hide.....hehehe
Copy copy man.... No vision... no new ideas.... Since when did you conceive this idea? Let me remind you that you were the immediate past president without any achievement. You literally collapsed the agric sector under your government. You were then busy collecting ford bribe from Kanazoe.
agric was 0.02 % under your watch you did not plant good advice any way
Mahama please say something new and stop repeating this ancient "let us eat what we grow" slogan. When will you ever come up with an idea of your own?
Look at this con-cert ex-president in your watch and your governance Ghana was importing food from different Africa countries, whilst Ghana have fertile grounds for planting, now you see when Nana Addo came to power and promoting farming in Ghana now you see there is food all over Ghana, J Mahama Ghanaians dont needs you advice ebo, please.
@ Kwabena Kesse please politics of insults must stop.I think on this call, the former President spoke well.We can use their own failures and inactions to make cases and arguments for 4 more years for Nana Addo. With NPP's performance,I think it will be travesty of judgement on the part of Ghanaians to vote NDC back to office in next year's election. However, lets accord President Mahama the respect that he deserves. We are all Ghanaians and our culture does not support insult of Elders.
Were you eating local rice when you were President? How much of local rice do you and your large family plus Lordina consume? You politicians only get sense when you are in opposition. That nansins must stop. Gonja ni ab*a!
Guys Politics of insults is wrong please. Let us use their own words to judge them but not to insults thats way out of order. He was one time in the office to make it work so use his policy to compare to the current office.
