President Akufo-Addo says the biggest issue for Ghana and the continent of Africa is finding work for the young people.
In an interview with CGTN on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Akufo-Addo said Africa is the youngest continent in the world in terms of its population and as a result, public sector jobs cannot employ all young people.
He said his administration has therefore placed emphasis on encouraging young people to become entrepreneurs so that they can work for themselves and create jobs for others.
"The biggest issue for our country and indeed for the continent of Africa is finding work for our young people," President Akufo-Addo said.
"As you know, Africa is the youngest continent in the world in terms of its population. So the solution cannot just be public sector work. It has to be private sector development, and that means entrepreneurship. They are putting a lot of emphasis on encouraging young people to become entrepreneurs so that they can work for themselves and create jobs for others".
He also recalled the circumstances which led to Chinese billionaire Jack Ma visiting Ghana last year for the Africa Netpreneur Summit.
"I met him in China whenever I was in Beijing, and we agreed that he would come to Ghana to help us develop ideas for entrepreneurship. And true enough, he lived up to his word. He came in November, we had the Africa Netpreneur Summit, which he put together – very successful and encouraging – especially people having access to a man like that who has done so much to promote all kinds of industries, new businesses in the world. If he could do it, it is possible that other people can do it," he said.

@Siisi what evidence do u have to support your claims of npp youth being employed? pple jst make baseless accusations without facts in this country, do u have the data base of the parties every ghanaian youth belongs to ? if not ***barred word***, the man acknowledges the fact that unemployment is a problem, even developed countries face this same issue,so imagine a country like Ghana trying to find its feet
don't buy into this line of thought that someone deliberately collapsed the banks. The banks were already on their way out as far back as 2013, government money to support them were diverted leaving the banks to die a slow and painful death. What government did was to save depositors (you and I) otherwise the whole financial architecture of the country would have come crushing down. UT, Capital etc, were in a total mess and they know it for a fact (read world bank report and IMF conditionalities on the program the previous government signed unto. let us put the politics aside and look forward to building a resilient economy that has the capacity to create jobs not to support people who will divert public money for their own parochial interest and turn around to cry wolf
BUT YOU CAME WORSENING THE UNEMPLOYMENT ISSUE AND NOW LAMENTING. THESE INDIGENOUS BANKS WERE ALL COLLAPSE IN THE NAME OF CLEANING THE FINANCIAL SECTOR AS THERE SHOULD BE OTHER APPROACH IN HANDLING THE ISSUE. IS NOT JUST ABOUT COLLAPSING THE BANKS AS THIS HAS AGGRAVATED THE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT. ONE THING LEADING AND NATION AND ANOTHER THING MANAGING A NATION. YOU COULD BE A GOOD LEADER BUT BAD MANAGER. REST MY CASE
@Siisi, don't forget the countries we call developed were also helped to get to where they are. Think ok
You are the president, for crying out loud! Stop the lamentation and the sleeping on the job and work hard to end the youth unemployment. It's been over three years since you took over, what have you done? You tell us about nacob or whatever you may call it, the deceitful way of getting npp youth jobs. How about the entire Ghanaian youth.
