The National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC], Sammy Gyamfi has alleged that leadership of the Electoral Commission [EC] is likely to pocket a whooping sum280billion cedis as per diem to compile new voters’ register for the country ahead of December 7, polls.
He claimed in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ that, the EC boss, Madam Jean Mensah and her deputies will earn some two hundred and eighty billion [old Ghana cedis] as daily allowance to conduct the exercise.
“With this exercise, EC officials will pocket 280billion cedis whiles some Ghanaians are suffering. They [EC] submitted this budget to government for approval,” he alleged.
Sammy Gyamfi, however, warned that the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voters Register will continue to mount pressure on the Electoral Commission - this he says will be done if the EC does not rescind its decision to compile a new Voter's Register.
The EC has already announced date and modalities for the compilation of a new voters’ register despite a planned meeting between the Eminent Advisory Committee and the Inter Party Advisory Committee [IPAC] scheduled for Thursday to iron out concerns raised over the exercise.
