The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday walked out of a meeting called by the Electoral Commission (EC) for technical persons of the political parties and the commission in relation to the plan for a new voters register.
The NDC argued that the letter inviting them to the meeting did not have an agenda, but when they arrived at the meeting Thursday, it was made clear to them that the decision to have a new voters register, had already been made.
To them, since a decision on what they were going to discuss had already been made, there was no need to be part of the meeting.
Supporting the NDC's walkout were representatives of two other political parties, the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the United Front Party (UFP).
The meeting was to discuss outstanding issues regarding the plan to compile a new voters register.
"There was supposed to be a meeting today and we believe that the agreement we reached at the meeting with the Committee of Eminent Persons was to the effect that they [Electoral Commission] will continue engaging us, continue engaging the technical persons of the political parties on the technical issues relative to whether we needed a new register or not," the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia said.
"So we were all expectant that we will now meet the Electoral Commission and to investigate whether we should do a new register or not based on sound technical reasons."
"We had a letter some three days ago that our technical persons were expected to meet the Electoral Commission this morning [Thursday], in fact without any agenda. So we had to write back to them that we can no longer continue to be ambushed into meetings because it is an issue we raised even with the Committee of Eminent Persons, the Electoral Commission is engaged in a charade of consultations, they pretend to be consulting you when they are not consulting you" Mr Asiedu Nketia added.

NDC your wish to see this country in uproar is about to be realized, be ready for the consequence because this time it will be a level battle ground and no Nicodemus night ambushes at the broadcasting house, this time for real we will see that real men are in town
am very sure the ndc used the old register to do juju so changing it will make them go mad hahahahahahah that is the reason for the unnecessary demonstrations and unwarranted walk out, the beginning of a greater ***barred word*** in the party oooooo ndc hahahahahhaha I pity the oooooo them fuuuuuuul pass the word fuuul
The stance of NDC that the EC should bow their demands to abandon the new voters' register is highly undemocratic, oppressive and dictatorial. What they don't know is that Ghanaians have come to understand that the tapes against the EC by Elvia Ankrah and co are true, true, that the NDC has an agenda to make the EC unpopular and have their way. Ghanaians are tired of them and will punish them severely if they don't rescind their un -demoncratic stance.
Who is going to save NDC from this mafia poeple , please Mr. Rawlings wake and save this party from John Mahama and his crooks. Josua Alabi Alban Bagbin Please save this party NOW
This EC Boss and her deputies never dreamt of these positions so they have turned into zombies for the NPP. I admired her at IEA but not she looks like a little something.
Where are Dr Kwesi Bothway, prof Alabi and others? Have they abandoned Ndc? Why are they leaving these nonentitiesssss to disgrace the party. The embarrassment is becoming too much
NDC has no other choice but to walk out. The reason for the walk out is that they have more serious problems to resolve. Any issue on elections is meaningless without resolving their problems.Their serious problems include: 1. Presidential Candidate. With the pending Airbus International Scandal, NDC is uncertain about the fate of their candidate Mahama. Many NDC are in the media doing damaged control and fighting hard to distort the identity and the actual crime committed by the Ghanaian officials likely to include Mahama but deep in the hearts of many NDC Mahama cannot be exonerated. They very worried about Mahama candidacy which they think must be addressed immediately in order to reorganize themselves for 2020 elections. 2. Running Mate: While Pro=Mahama group in NDC are pushing that he selects his running mate soon before anything happens, anti-Mahama group think that it would be improper for Mahama to do that with his impending issues. The latter consider that as hijacking NDC by Mahama. 3. Implicated Individuals. There are some who are also worried by the others in NDC who would be implicated in current and unfolding corruption cases. Now there are some NDC warming themselves to replace Mahama. There are also some anti Mahamas pretending to sympathize with Mahama to win his support in the event that he cannot contest. NDC has now a very serious issue to address that to worried about electoral procedures. They are torn between abandoning Mahama now for the good of the party or pledging loyalty to defend Mahama at all cost at the peril of the party. Interesting days ahead.
If NDC walks out it is their own problem, it is not everyday that they will get what they wanted, if they stretch themselves up like a running water, the voter register will be change. They thinks Ghanaians are f o o ls like them, Ghanaians are not going to sit down for you to force EC to use this Ecowas for 2020 elections, the register will be change, they might chose not to go and register your names.
Did they have anything good to offer?
Has NDC got advisers? Are there any elders in the party? The 20 somethings is leading the party to destruction.
