President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to take part in the upcoming new Voters' registration exercise.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has set April 18, 2020, as the date for the compilation of the new voters' register
The Commission intends to complete the exercise by May 30, 2020, and exhibit the new register from August 15 to August 28, 2020.
The opposition NDC, on the other hand, has sworn to resist EC's decision to compile a new voters' register; giving varied reasons including the fact that there is nothing wrong with the old register.
It is however not certain whether or not the NDC will be taking part in the forthcoming registration exercise.
Delivering his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament Thursday, in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, President Akufo-Addo said "when the electoral commission begin the registration exercise for the compilation of a new voters' register in the course of the year, I appeal to all Ghanaians to register" adding "it is our civic responsibility to do so"
