President Nana Akufo-Addo has said Ghana can defeat the coronavirus as a united people, saying now is not the time for political parties to seek to make capital out of the situation.
The pandemic, since entering Ghana’s territory a couple of weeks ago, has killed four people out of one hundred thirty-seven confirmed cases of which two patients have recovered.
In his fourth address to the nation on the situation through which he announced a lockdown on the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, the President said: “We must be united in our determination and efforts to overcome this challenge”.
“This, certainly, is not the time for politicking or the display of partisanship. The virus does not care which party you belong to, neither is it, as we have seen, a respecter of persons. The enemy is the virus and not each other”, he noted.
The President also announced the “establishment of a COVID-19 Fund to be managed by an independent board of trustees to be chaired by former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable”.
“I’ve directed the Controller and Accountant General to pay my next three months’ salary, i.e., April, May and June, into this fund. Let me also thank, from the bottom of my heart, the churches, financial institutions and individuals who have already made donations to help in this fight. God richly bless you”, the President said.

We are being told the president does not take salary, is he now taking salary. Why is the administration lying. I strongly believe that majority of asantes will not forgive this guy for introducing the corona shiiit big time with independence day celebration because there was enough body contacts between party faithful and their officials. Also, why certain officials from other parties did not attend the ceremony- was it a tip off from the sources? Truth, discipline and welcoming constructive criticism are part of quality leadership. What is happening to our leaders?
when mps contributed a percentage of their salaries to build hundreds of chip compounds , what did you do and say...nothing...how much is your three months salary compared to the lies you came to tell us..where is the 100 million dollars? ..it's hard times you tell Ghanaians the realities confronting us and stop this lies and rhetorics..if your mother is dead and you say she is asleep..when the body starts decaying....the realties will hit you like thunder...you see how you,be been exposed
Mr President, is the 100 million dollars finished...or is it one of your normal rhetoric...just talking for us to know that you are working when it's so clear that you are so clueless and incompetent...you only know how to put words together to deceive the citizens.we no longer take you serious because your appointees keep contradicting your own statement with realities and not your rhetorics...

boys go chop the money. you know wanna people
The positive side of this covid-19 is that the climate is going to emerge better than before the virus. Pollution levels are dropping and air quality is improving tremendously across the globe. People are drawing closer to God than before and are staying closer and bonding with the people they have not had enough time for in the past. There is a positive side to it after all. God knows and is truly the custodian of all wisdom!
If distributors ,marketers ,etc are allowed to sell who are they going to sell to? Is it not to the same general public who are supposed to stay at Home? And this country isn't a matured market for online delivery due to low internet penetration and inadequate planning in terms of our streets and houses. The address left so may loose ends. Mr president ,please come again! It does not even come close to resembling a lockdown.
A good example set by donating your salary for the next three months. But the message of the "lockdown" left me more confused than before. In Ghana almost everybody is a salesman ,marketer, distributor of food, drinks, beverages. And besides how will you ensure trotro drivers reduce the number of passengers and observe hygienic protocols? I did hear some relief fund of GHC1billion without modalities for its use. Given the scandals this country has witnessed from public officials it is just a recipe for another scandal where this money will be diverted from the people who really need it. Overall, the address left me more questions than answers as our institutions in this country are not as efficient as they need to be!
