Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. is making a subtle call for a total lockdown of Ghana in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kwesi Pratt expressed deep worry over the implementation of the partial lockdown announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo saying though it is laudable, it doesn’t help much to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
To him, the partial lockdown defeats the very purpose for which it is decreed by the President because there are still many people wandering about in town.
He pointed out that looking at the rapid spread of the virus and its fatality ratio, it is prudent the President causes more inconveniences for Ghanaians.
" . . 152 confirmed cases of the virus infection in Ghana is enough proof that the country is already in a critical situation and needs urgent solutions," he added.
Expressing his fright over the possibility that the number of cases might increase exponentially, Mr. Pratt told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' that Ghana has only two alternatives in the wake of the Covid-19.
The alternatives, he stated, are either to inconvenience people or to stop death but the latter is of more importance than the former.
To him, the only option to inconveniencing Ghanaians is death and there cannot be any middle way.
“The argument that people will be inconvenienced and so on. It is a bad argument because we have two choices; to inconvenience people or to stop death. So, you inconvenience and you stop death . . . We need to inconvenience people a lot more than we’re doing now because the alternative is death’’.
He feared less stricter rules by President Nana Akufo-Addo might result in a huge count of deaths.
“The coronavirus has no legs. It has no car. It has no independent means of mobility. It’s only means of mobility is human beings. So, if you want to stop it, you stop human beings from moving. There’s no alternative to that . . . "we have two clear choices. To inconvenience people or to stop death. Which are we choosing? Are we choosing inconvenience over the prevention of death?’’ he questioned.
Though he admits a lot of Ghanaians are already inconvenienced under the partial lockdown, “we need more inconvenience’’.

the gov't shouldn't take very advice from Pratt with a pinch of salt.……...a word to the wise...
Have you considered some of us have children lying at hospitals we visit daily. Are you that immature in your submission. Does the country have the capacity to bring the whole nation to halt and take care of its citizens daily. The government must provide 3 square meals daily. Do not forget We borrow daily to sustain us. CHEAP POLITICS AND PROPAGANDA. ***barred word*** TALKS
Your submission is lame and infantile! Are you really serious to ask the question that what do kayayes want in Accra? They were driven by economic necessities as a result of bad governance which enrich the rich and impoverish the poor. Their quest is to survive as it is a basic human need. And that is through no fault of theirs. They did not ask politicians to draft bad policies that isolated them in the development chain. They did not ask politicians to steal and waste the country's resources which were meant for equitable development for the benefit of all. So now tell me how you can genuinely blame these vulnerable girls who merely want to survive. Next time you are making analysis use your coconut small wai!
Who is Pratt? Is he an expert in infection control or public health? Is he wiser than all the experts advising the president? He just want yo be heard
Hello People, This is the first time I entirely agrees with Pratt, Total lockdown is required now else we will regret soon. Some are talking about Kayayes been homeless, but we must bare in mind no government can please all when it comes to such situations. This is the reason the Almighty God could not make everybody rich but life itself are stages we all go through. Also, we must know Kayayess are not the only homeless in Accra as America and all countries in the world do have homeless people. The order stay home does not mean a rented house or kiosk, but dont move out from your place of rest to Town to mingle unnecessary. Let me ask, where do so called Kayayes sleep in the night and when its raining? And who told Kayayes to come to Accra anyway? We all have the responsibilities to take care of our lives as I know many Kayayes who have rented houses and kiosk they stay in here in Accra. Those who has no place top sleep did not plan their lives well as they earn more than 15ghc per day. Calculate that by 28days = 420ghc per month. Houses cost 100ghc per month in the areas they trade. There is always a price to pay and lockdown is not just a fun but to save all. Kofi
