A former Deputy Minister of Power under the erstwhile Mahama administration, John Abdulai Jinapor, has taken a swipe at President Akufo-Addo’s 50% electricity power reduction stating that it will make consumers worse off.
According to him, the president’s 50% electricity rebate is meant to mislead the poor Ghanaian who queued to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into office.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his late-night update on measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus, announced on Thursday that “government will fully absorb electricity bills for the poorest of the poor, i.e. for all lifeline consumers, that is free electricity for persons who consume zero to 50 kilowatt-hours a month for this period. In addition, for all other consumers, residential and commercial, Government will absorb, again, fifty per cent of your electricity bill for this period, using your March 2020 bill as your benchmark.”
Akufo-Addo explained: “if your electricity bill was GH¢100, you will pay only GH¢50, with government absorbing the remaining GH¢50. This is being done to support industry, enterprises and the service sector in these difficult times, and to provide some relief to households for lost income.’
Shortly after the announcement, the Yapei Kusawgu MP, took to his Facebook timeline and explained: “The lifeline Net Charge for Electricity consumers (50kwh) is [GH]¢19.26 a month.
“By spending more time at home during the lockdown, a doubling of consumption, that is say, 100[KWh], will push a consumer to ¢58.93,” John Abdulai Jinapor added.

Only NDC logic that makes a person worse off after 50% of his/her bills have been paid. Going by this, then what will happen if people are given 100% relief? By NDC logic, they will probably just die.
This is further confirmation that the entire NDC membership is confused. They're struggling in search of something to hold on to. Where is the sense in what Jinapor is saying? If you double consumption and you get a 50% subsidy, how does that make you worse off? NDC is evil. PERIOD!
Sometimes, I don't know how these people think ooo... 1. Now if I stayed home and I double my consumption, is it the fault of Nana Addo or myself? 2. If I consume 58.93 cedis, am I supposed to pay for it or not? 3. If I am supposed to duly pay 58.93 cedis for what I have consumed and government pays 50% for me, am I better off or worse? I believe people must be measured with their politics. We are not in normal times.
Baseless argument. "By spending more time at home during the lockdown, a doubling of consumption..." Why will you double consumption by spending more time at home? Where is the evidence to support that? You don't simply make a hollow statement and then proceed to use that to argue against something. That is mischief.
If you always want to be heard, that is the aftermath Trash. John jinapor, akandor that guy representing that great constituency Odododiodoo, I hate to mention his name ,forgive me and then other one, his name translated as "who knows". from where I nearly married. Never think your ndc will come back to power on what message, what policy, what vision or you think empty criticism can win you votes? Anyway, you have some constituencies who dont care and will vote ndc whatever but majority will talk at the end of the show and definitely not for the ndc. 4more4Nana#4more to do more! "When the decision making time comes we know whom we shall vote for". Please say I not We know whom I shall vote for.
Eventually the people of Ghana are beginning to see the competencies of the young politicians of today. The Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Dr Okoe Boye, John Jinapor, Okudzeto Ablakwa etc. Who would you trust to lead this country? Your guess is a good as mine. Some people think they must always be heard to remain relevant. They dont care whether they make sense or not. But the people are able to analyse what they say and judge them accordingly. When the decision making time comes we know whom we shall vote for.
LOOK AT THIS MORON. WHAT AT ALL DO THEY EXPECT THE PRESIDENT TO DO? DON'T MIND THOSE WHO HAD NOT TASTED LIFE BEFORE BUT RODE ON THE BACK OF POLITICS TO BE WHO THEY ARE. THEY ARE BEHAVING LIKE BABIES WITH SPILT MILK. NOMORE LAND CRUISERS, FREE FUEL, FREE FOREIGN TRAVELS, EVERYTHING FREE SO THEY HAVE TO DO THEIR MASTERS BIDDING AT ALL COST.
When Nana brought free SHS people said it should be free to all kk. When Nana gave free Water to all u said this should be free to all. When Nana gave 50% off to electricity you same people are saying this will not solve our problem. So NDC pls tell us what we should do now.
