Dr. Randy Abbey, host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, says the novel Coronavirus has exposed a lot of fundamental weaknesses in the country. He added that the end of this novel virus should not take the country back to the old ways of doing things.
According to him, the country struggled in dealing with four hundred thousand of those who are considered as vulnerable or underprivileged during the period the president announced a three-week lockdown in Greater Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi.
Dr Abbey who was a guest on ‘The KSM Show’ on Metro TV Friday, May 1, 2020, said that Ghana had no data on such people, which made it difficult for the country to properly share food to these individuals… “that brought into sharp focus the welfare nature of this country”.
He added: "Until COVID-19, we were using all manner of superlatives to talk about how well we have done but all of a sudden, this thing which is not even three-months old in Ghana is telling us that indeed we have not done anything.”
Dr Abbey noted that COVID-19 has “actually brought to the fore the weaknesses…whatever we have; the supper structure is on a very weak foundation.”
He indicated that due to poor preparation, a lockdown which was to combat the spread of the novel Coronavirus amongst the Ghanaian citizenry would have rather killed the very people the country decided to protect because of hunger.
“Whilst others are talking about the new normal, how are we averting our minds to what the new normal is and which steps are we taking to ensure that we will be ready for the new normal or we are really adapting to the new normal. Are we rather talking about this too shall pass and not waiting for it to pass so that we get back to our comfort zone?” he quizzed.
Dr Randy Abbey explained that there are many things that have happened which has given Ghanaians the opportunity to do things differently but these opportunities have been made to slip by.
“What is the encouragement that this too shall pass?” he asked.
Ghana's Coronavirus case count stands at 2,169 with 229 recoveries and 18 deaths.

So Randy didn't know that the white man and our own politicians and stomach journalists have created so much poverty in our society that if you lock down the country for two days more than half of the people will starve for two days! No wonder some of you keep company with baaad politicians, you don't even know the true cost of the larvish lifestyle the politicians you roll with. The expensive Land cruisers and expensive lifestyles of all government appointees has created enormous poverty beyond your imagination. One day, we the people will stop this nonsensss! We'll do it on our own because we've realized that journalists have joined politicians.
Listen to this something tooo!!! mtchewwwwww!!
Who listens to this arr..ogant fu.uuul?
As if this is not the same Randy who followed Mahama around when NDC was in power. He has suddenly realized that we've done nothing and that "this too shall pass" is a problem to him? Such hypocrites are the source of our problems in Ghana. They become sensible when their party is in opposition. Waste!
And this one too is a doctor?Listen to the jazz he is blowing.Skin pain will k*** you oh .
Kindly tell Ghanaians what social interventions your party put in place during the Dumsor. At least we all have tv and saw food being distributed. Your friend during the dumsor told Ghanaians to pay more to enjoy electricity. We now understand why he said that when the bribery in the power barges started coming out. If you have problems with the quote "This too shall pass" let me remind you if you cant read, does it also mean you cant hear that it has been adopted by many countries if you listen to BBC/CNN. It is enough encouragement from any good leader to his people. Covid-19 did not tell even China that its was coming so they should prepare. Even Almighty USA is having a problem with WHO because the WHO did not inform the world the virus can be transmitted through human contact. So dont sit there and say what you do not know and chop the little you collected.
so Sir what were you doing when you were being paid during the Mahama led government?
