The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says they will not be part of Wednesday’s meeting between political parties and the Electoral Commission (EC).
The meeting which is at the instance of the EC is part of stakeholder discussions towards the compilation of a new voters' register for the 2020 elections.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the deputy General Secretary of the party, Peter Boamah Otokunor said officials of the party will not risk their lives to attend the meeting in a ‘small room’ in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We can’t be part of that IPAC meeting, we think that it is an illegitimate IPAC meeting. If it is by way of passing information to us there are several communication channels to reach us. They can write to us, that is better than going to risk ourselves in that small room.
“We have said that if they want to have a proper meeting they should go for a bigger auditorium like the COCONUT Groove hotel where they used to go for such a meeting. We think that there is a sinister motive behind this whole agenda, we are not participating and we are demanding that this meeting is postponed until a befitting venue is decided,” he said.
Request for training manual
Meanwhile, the party has requested from the Electoral Commission a training manual for voters registration officials ahead of the planned exercise.
Confirming a letter signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, he explained that it is the responsibility of the Electoral Commission to provide for the political parties the training manuals and any other document the political parties may need going into the general elections.
A letter to the EC Chairperson signed by the party’s General Secretary Johnson Aseidu Nketia read: “The National’ Democratic Congress (NDC) has become aware of an ongoing nationwide training exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission to prepare its staff to be deployed for the conduct of voter registration prior to the 2020 General Elections”.
It stressed: “as a major stakeholder whose agents have important functions to perform during the exercise to ensure its credibility, we are by this letter officially requesting the commission to supply the NDC with the above-named documents and any other material that would enable the party to prepare our agents adequately for same. Thank you.”

MAY BE MR. MENSAH IS SUITABLE TO BE APPOINTED THE NEW EC. YOU SEEM TO KNOW IT BETTER THAN THE EC SINCE YOU CAN JUDGE THE EC WRONG. MY ONLY CONCERN IS PEOPLE WITH GENUINE PhD, AND CA DON'T PARADE THEM IN COMMENTARIES. GOOD DAY.
Hi Please read well. Mensah is not saying he lives in CA. The CA is after the PhD. CA is qualification, that is Chartered Accountant. What Mensah PhD, CA is saying is the fact and that is the position of the law. EC is wrong.
who cares about these nation wrecking party, the ndc is under serious curse the destruction button has been pressed and I love the way they are making themselves so irrelevant to discerning Ghanaians. To Otukonor and his metallic teeth should give us a break we don't care if you don't attend IPAC meetings at least sanity will prevail there, an1mals
I DOUBT IF MENSAH LIVES IN CA. YOU DON'T' REGISTER AS A VOTER IN CA WITH JUST A BIRTH CERT. NOR ANY OF THE DOCUMENTS YOU MENTIONED. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A STATE ID, SSN AND MORE OTHER DOCUMENTS. CERTAINLY, YOU NEED THE STATE ID TO REGISTER AS A VOTER AT CA. FURTHER MORE, YOU NEED ABOUT FIVE DOCUMENTS TO SATISFY THE POINTS NEEDED TO PROVE ONES IDENTITY IN ORDER TO GET THE STATE ID. IT IS FAR MORE TEDIOUS TO GET REGISTERED AS A VOTER IN CA. IT IS SO CHEAP AND PRACTICALLY NOTHING TO GET REGISTERED IN GHANA.

OTUKONOR,WHO CARES WHETHER THE NDC WILL HONOUR THE MEETING OR NOT THIS IS YOUR OWN CUP OF TEA-PERIOD.most ghanaians have out lawed the ndc party in flesh and in spirit so don;t talk too much.WE GHANAIANS ARE FED UP WITH THE NDC PARTY AT THE MOMENT BECAUSE NOTHING GOOD IS COMING OUT OF THIS BOOT 4 BOOT,A PARTY BORN OUT OF BLOOD SHED AND BLOOD THIRST PARTY-APUUUUU-SAGAA ENA EYE WO
Why is the NDC asking for training materials from the EC? Have they forgotten the injunction that was placed by a court in Tema preventing the EC from having a meeting with its officers on these materials? To the best of my knowledge the EC has not been able to train its officers so they cannot share any material with anybody. When the EC decided to find a suitable place to have a meeting with its staff you rushed on them there now you are asking for what a suitable place, kindly go and sit at the Black star Square it is very airy. NDC has lost its bearings. No direction oooooooo
What is wrong with the NDC? They have been calling and organizing press conferences almost everyday in a very small room so what kind of excuse is this guy Otukunor giving? Then again why do these journalists attend their press conferences at all? Considering the virus can be spread at their press conferences! I just do not get it!
They might as well go and burn the sea.
I am of the opinion that the Ndc wants a response to this letter to prosecute their case in the supreme court. I think the E C should only respond when they are done with the Ndc suit in the supreme court
