Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Mame Yaa Aboagye has lambasted a member of the opposition NDC, Stephen Atubiga over what she terms as ''shallow and pathetic comment'' made by him over the death of former President, Jerry John Rawlings.

The family of the late Ex-President and Founder of the NDC, on Thursday, November 12 visited President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House to officially inform him about the demise of their beloved Rawlings.

But Atubiga, in a Facebook post on Friday, November 12, 2020 criticized the family over their visit to the President stressing due protocol was not followed.

According to him, the family should have first informed the NDC because he is their founder.

Reacting to Atubiga's comments, Mame Yaa Abagye held strongly that the family did the right thing by first visiting the President instead of the NDC.

She stated that Mr. Rawlings was Ghana's President and not a ''President to the NDC''.

“Can’t we all grieve in peace, for God sake the late former President is not a private individual but an asset to the State and must accord him as such? I believe the family going to the Presidency is an official notice to the State, and not the NPP because he (late Rawlings) was a Statesman and is normal the President at the time of his death be told first before anyone else. Before the NDC, there was other political parties such PNDC. Each of them had members and leaders. Must the family go to each of these to discuss burial? He was President to Ghanaian and not to NDC", she said.

"The late Rawlings is the Ex-President of the Republic of Ghana and anything that concerns him is taken care of by the State...This is not a matter of NPP and NDC politics' so grow up', she added.

The former President died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday after a brief illness.

President Akufo-Addo has announced a seven-day mourning period for the late President and also instructed all national flags to fly at half-mast.
