Lawyer and Governance Expert, Dr Eric Oduro Osae says parliament will be an ornery place if the Speaker doesn’t stiffly control affairs of the House.
He said actions of parliamentarians in recent times doesn’t speak well of the August House to the public – hence, there is a need for the Speaker to be firm.
This follows series of heckling when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered the State of the Nation Address on Tuesday.
The minority side relentlessly disrupted the President chanting to disapprove of some contents in the President’s speech.
The majority also retaliated creating absolute noise in the August House amidst dignitaries and high-profile personalities.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has however noted that he will not tolerate such behaviour and urged lawmakers to be meticulous.
Discussing the issue on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Dr Eric Oduro Osae commended the Speaker for his caution.
According to him, “there should be serious business in Parliament,” – adding that, “If the Speaker is not firm, things will go errant.”
