Former President John Dramani Mahama has said that even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not happy with the conduct of the 2020 elections, it still maintained a level head because the peace of Ghana is more important than anyone in the country.
He said there were many countries, where disputed elections led to civil wars, but for the grace of God Ghana continue to remain peaceful after elections since 1992 because the country cherished peace.
Former President Mahama said this at the palace of Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, during his visit to the Upper West Region as part of his nationwide ‘thank you’ tour.
He thanked both Traditional and Religious Leaders in the country for their contribution to peace in the country, adding that anytime they were heading into an election, they continued to counsel them to maintain the peace.
He said this had yielded results and that it was his prayer that Ghana would continue to remain peaceful.
He said the PNDC led to the creation of the Upper West Region and that both the PNDC and the NDC had since been principally responsible for most of the infrastructure in the region.
“So I’m not surprised that in the last elections, if you take all the five regions of the north, the Upper West Region had the highest percentage of votes for the NDC in the Presidential elections with 67 per cent.
“We won the Presidential elections in all the 11 constituencies in the region and increased the number of our Parliamentary seats from six to eight seats”, he said.
Former President Mahama said this contributed to the party’s vote rise nationally from a little above four million in the 2016 elections to almost 6.3 million in the 2020 elections.
He said the party also increased the number of Parliamentary seats from 106 in 2016 to137 in the 2020 elections.
According to the Former President, “but for the arm twisting by the military” in some constituencies against the NDC, they would have had a clear majority in Parliament.
On the recent floods that destroyed some major roads and cutting off six districts and several communities in the Upper West Region, Mr Mahama called on government to deploy the 48 Engineer Regiment with some emergency action to allow free flow of vehicular traffic.
On the deplorable nature of the Sawla-Wa road, the former President expressed disappointment in the failure of government to maintain the road, adding that when the NDC was in government every year they used to maintain the bad road.
If we don’t do anything about it, that road will completely be destroyed and we will have to spend money to construct it again.
Former President Mahama also raised concerns about the failure of government to give the Upper West Regional Hospital seed money to enable it operate at full capacity, and called on government to do so for the hospital operate to full capacity.
“Whilst we think about building new hospitals, the capacities of existing ones must be fully utilized”, he said.
Wa Naa Pelpuo on his part commended former President Mahama for maintaining statesmanship after the December 2020 elections, noting that his peaceful nature contributed to the peace the country was enjoying.
The Most Reverend Richard Kuuia Baawobr, the Bishop of the Wa Catholic Diocese, thanked Mr Mahama for his contribution to peace in Ghana and indicated their willingness to work with political parties that demonstrated the fear of God and the love for humanity.
The former President was accompanied by his running mate in the 2020 elections, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman of the NDC, Peter Boamah Ottukono, NDC Deputy General Secretary, some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the region and regional and constituency executives among others.

Simply f00l1sh talk. You stole Ghanaians verdict with the help of your cousin Atubuga who connived with 4 other judges as against other four courageous ones at the supreme court election 2012. For four years you put Ghana in total darkness and put the economy on the reverse gear. Ghanaians kept quite and had patience for you whiles watching you and your cohorts greedy bastards with sharp teeth stealing our moneys to buy properties in Trasaco, Dubai and the US for themselves and their girlfriends. You saw your smoothness level in election 2016 when you were shamefully embarrassed with the worse defeat of any sitting president in any election on earth. Now someone is clearing your mess and putting the economy on track even in the Covid-19 era and you still have the effrontery to open your big mouth to talk non$ense? You hink Ghanaians are $tu91d eh? God have mercy on all of us and bless Mother Ghana, Bless the Great Adaklu Kingdom, Bless the President and the Great Elephant.
Like what will you do Padi.?
So-called communications expert who talk before reasoning, a former president who talks as a serial caller. There's no sign of statesmanship with him, too amateurish! He's incompetent and corrupt too. Never again should we entrust our dear nation in the hands of such an immature fellow. Long live Ghana.
This man is very eluded and thinks that everyone is as naive as him. There is no sense of maturity about him at all. You claim to have won in 2016 and conceded because of peace and love for Ghana and now 2020 too you won. What is wrong with this man. What all will satisfy him. Assuming you come again in 2024 you will have 4 years to rule and what? This same man goes round preaching peace but never satisfied because he is burnt on ruling for the full term regardless and will never be satisfied and I bet he will come again in 2028, 2032 to context and just wants to prey on people's emotions. He has no qualities as a statesman and certainly not as a President. Never again Ghana I guess NDC will have a better chance with a new candidate than Mahama.
YOU ARE NOT A SERIOUS PERSON! GHANA IS MOVING FORWARD, AND DEFINITELY NOT WITH YOU!
