NDC Member of Parliament(MP) for North Tongu constituency and minority spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that the total cost of President Akufo-Addo's private jet travels can be used to acquire a new private jet to his specification.
According to him, the president's continuos luxurious travels is costing the country and gradually draining the public purse.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that the amount of money that has been spent so far on the president's travels can equally be used to acquire a private jet for the country and even save some for other developmental projects.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Presidential Jet, Falcon 900 EX-Easy is being used by Liberia President George Weah to the UN General Assembly in New York, he noted.
The lawmaker also noted that President Akufo-Addo hired a luxurious jet that costs the state $14,000 per hour for the same trip, with the explanation that Ghana’s jet was not fit for long travels.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the incessant use of tax payers' money for luxurious travels needed to be investigated.
This is the third time the MP has blown the whistle over the president's Global Jet Luxembourg hired jet travels following his recent travels to the UK on the 27th of July 2021 to attend the Global Education Summit and last week’s state visit to Germany, including trips to South Africa, etc.
"Per my calculation the cost of the President's trip should cost almost about 6.3 million Ghana cedis, and this money should if not only acquire a private jet, provide amenities for some hospitals across the country," he said.

This kind of behavior from Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is what I call double standards. It cuts across the whole NDC. And it's born out of desperation and lack of competent political message. Hence, dwelling and exaggerating on trivial issues become the main political tool. With which they make a point against a political opponent. I hope Okudzeto is not being a hypocrite to assume that Ghanaian taxpayers would be raged against our President for allowing President Weah of Liberia to use our Presidential jet for short distance journeys. Knowing that Ghanaians value good neighborhood and friendliness more than the cost involved in this gesture. I think Ghanaians are aware that our Presidential jet is not safe for long-distance journeys and that President Akufo Addo equally uses it for short distances. My sincere advice to the NDC and Mr. Abrakwa is that they should make the effort to formulate a strong policy message to counteract Ghana beyond aid NPP's policy. This is the only way they can convince the Ghanaian voters that, indeed, they have better alternative programs in store as a competent Government in waiting. And that is the only reasonable way to garner their votes. In fact, I have a strong aversion to the NDC's sole diabolic method of doing opposition politicking.
Ablakwa, How much did your flights to do DEGREE course costs when your wre a minister during ATTA MILLS government time.
When you and your colleagues like Fiifi were travelling every weekend on business class to do your masters didn't you know that could have been used to get a new plane instead. Hypocrite
The agenda of this baby with sharp teeth is to make Nana Addo and NPP unpopular with cost of jet renting, but the more he raises the issue he exposes his ignorance in governance. Ghanaians are discerning and will not fall for such crude old propaganda. What pain Ghanaians is this empty barrel and nonentity, by virtue of Ghanaian politics, was a minister, someone who had not written employment application before had the gut to send his wife abroad for delivery, this guy was even carrying huge sums of money just at his car boot. Never again...!
