The Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has said the worse economic performance of the NPP government was the NDC government's best performance under former President John Dramani Mahama.
"At a time when there was no Covid-19 pandemic and no global challenge like the Russian-Ukraine war, the then NDC government ran to the IMF for economic bailout, but the government of President Akufo-Addo is finding home-grown solutions to address challenges facing the economy," the Majority Chief Whip said.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh's comment follow a press conference by the Minority Caucus at which John Abdulai Jinapor, Ranking Member on the Committee on Mines and Energy and MP for Yapei/Kusawgu called for dissolution of the Economic Management Team headed by the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Minority caucus, Ghana's economy under the current government is very bad and blamed the Economic Management Team for the situation.
However, the Majority Chief Whip said when GDP is 5% under the government of President Akufo-Addo, the NDC under former President John Mahama had recorded 3% GDP as one of its best and asked whose performance is better.
"Amidst all the challenges faced by the NPP government, namely, rising price of fuel on the global market and the exchange rate between the dollar and the cedi, as well as the global economic effect of Russia's invasion of Ukraine with their attendant effects on the country and the people, the NPP government has managed to achieve a 5% GDP," Frank Annoh-Dompreh stated.
He said without these global challenges under the government of former President John Mahama, "the NDC ran with its tail between its leg to the IMF for policy credibility".
The Majority Chief Whip said the NPP government cannot pretend that all is well with the economy and is therefore finding home-grown solutions to the challenges facing the economy instead of running to the IMF for support under harsh conditions and terms, such as halting public sector recruitment.
He accused the NDC and the Minority in Parliament of engaging in mere propaganda to score cheap political points.
On the e-levy, Frank Annoh-Dompreh said the NDC is aware that its approval by Parliament and implementation will help generate more revenue for government to carry out development projects such as road construction hence the strong objection to the e- levy.
He said if the e-levy will bring only hardship to the people which can affect the fortune of the NPP in the upcoming 2024 election and inure to the benefit of the NDC, why wouldn't the NDC support the passage of the e-levy bill by Parliament.

Please, please, don't play the two best ever performing governments in the fourth republic of Ghana of the NPP-administrations out with petty politics of lies and ingenuity. There is more to it for the good people of Ghana than mere political polemics and propaganda. The administration of Kufuor equally suffered from that kind of NDC politics of malice, lies, and mischief. It had only become very obvious and clear because the successive administrations of the NDC had comparatively performed too poorly to find any justification or equalization. In fact, the Ghanaians, who are clearly fed up with the NDC's Goebel type of propaganda politics, are so saddened that the NDC, despite the obvious fact that the Ghanaians could read between the lines to make their own informed choices, finds no need to change course. Despite all the challenges of the Akufo-Addo administration, overtly caused by the COVID pandemic and what not, Ghanaians are clear in their minds that they are far better off than the NDC's administration without a global pandemic.
Common national service allowance you can't pay and you say what. you people are just a disgrace to mother Ghana. you people need some lashes. they should put you, people, on the table one after the other and give some real lashes. stripe naked and beaten well well. liars
@ Gbabri really? …we don’t have short memories at all …Kuffour put in all the structures that we needed to build on it to progress…Data needed to plane (I.e National Identification Authorities) , Education (I.e Long Distance Learning to improve the teaching profession) The four year SHS to reduced the unemployment! Security (I.e Reformed the police and the military by retooling them) Resources: Discovery of Oil. Transportation (I.e Kuffour Buses that gave free rides to students)Infrastructures ( so many hospitals, roads , etc) Health Insurance etc.. tell me what happened to all these when the so called socialist came to power PNDC in 2008 to 2016! What became the order of the day was Slay Queens, Dumsor, unemployed Graduates associations, Judgement Debts, STL fiasco! , take or pay power contracts whiles Kuffour’s Generators was deliberately left to rot , Hope City Fiasco, the meat is finish left with bones, 419 banking sectors through get rich schemes! , then in a rush to hoodwinked Ghanaians started with E-Blocks! , inflated contracts etc! Worldwide even those so called rich nations are suffering! Fuel hikes , COVID-19 still raising with cost of living ever higher! U.S.A, UK, Australia, Germany, China , Russia etc! Buh here in Ghana despite inflation we still have water , food, electricity and people still are able to rent ! Yes indeed Nana Addo’s worse is indeed PNDC’s best !
***barred word***!
Annor Dompreh, if E-levy is what Ghana needs now to save the economy from collapse, then we are lost. Are you saying that the Gold, cocoa, manganese, bauxite and oil that Ghana is endowed with are now a curse rather than a blessing? Looking at Ghana's natural resources as against its population of some 30 million people a visionary leader should be able to manage the country for the people to feel happy. Unfortunately the so called politicians represent themselves not the people. What goes into government budget such that the GRA keeps telling us they have exceeded their targets and yet government can't honour statutory payments ie common fund, Getfund, road fund, health insurance fund etc. If you ask your revenue collector to go out and mobilize One million Ghana cedis, it tells me that you know with the one million cedis you will be able to fund all your expenditures, now the revenue collector goes out there and comes with one million, five hundred thousand Ghana cedis ie 50% above the target you set for him and yet still you can't honour your obligations. How will you explain this to a layman in the street and convince him. The fact is akuffo Addo is confused and currently nobody knows where the driver is sending the passengers. John Mahama with all his shortfalls was better compared to what we are witnessing currently. I have been voting for the NPP since 1996, this particular NPP is completely different from the Kufuor NPP we saw from 2001 -2008. Kufour's elephant had big ears and listened a lot, akuffo Addo's elephant equally have big ears unfortunately it doesn't listen, at best it will hear but won't listen. Simply reshuffle akuffo Addo can't do five years on. Defence, interior, agriculture, finance, trade, foreign affairs, roads, transport, national security same ministers in same ministries for 5 years, why. This one you don't need parliamentary approval to do a reshuffle and yet akuffo Addo can't do. If Kufuor was behaving like this Akuffo Addo will not have come to meet a formidable NPP party to ride on to power, after 8 years NPP under kufour was still very popular thus the 49% lead for akuffo Addo in 2008 elections,. You have ministers and MMDCEs some of whom have no child of their own who is 18 years ie the minimum voter age in Ghana and they keep chanting break the 8, whose 18 year old son or daughter will break the 8 for you under the current circumstances where NPP core supporters themselves are not seeing top much less others. 2024 will be very interesting, for every move president kufour made he looked back to see whether his people were following. Akuffo Addo is just walking, as to whether his people are following he can't tell. The day he will look back, he won't find anybody following him. Those close to him are not telling him the truth, even NPP supporters are not happy, as for NDC, it's a no go area. We are watching
