NDC Member of Parliament(MP) for North Tongu constituency and Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that the next NDC government will jail all those who have illegally benefitted from proceeds of the National Cathedral.
According to him, payments which have been done so far by the government to some individuals did not receive the approval of parliament.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that every money that is expended by government for a particular project needs to pass through Parliament and be approved by the House, before the Finance Minister can go ahead to make payment.
"But that was not the case with respect to payments that was made to Sir David Adjaye. All monies that have been paid to him by the finance minister were not even discussed in parliament for it to even be approved by the House, and that constitutes an illegality.
"The Akufo-Addo government has deliberately refused to follow due process when it comes to issuing money for the National Cathedral project. The NDC government will not entertain this illegality, we will ensure that all those who have benefitted from the illegal and fragrant abuse of the public purse are made to face the law," he vowed.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, wondered why President Akufo-Addo will want to use monies from the public purse to honor a personal promise he made to God during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
He further questioned if amidst the current dire straits, a national cathedral is a priority of the suffering masses who some cannot even afford a three square meal a day.
"Look at the amount of money that has been given to an individual for practically no work done when some could have even charge far less than what we are paying. People have been rendered homeless and some have even resigned from their jobs in protest to what they believe is a misplaced priority of the NPP government.
"I can assure you that the next NDC government will not hesitate to go to court and have all those who perpetuated such illegality prosecuted and possibly jailed if the are indeed found guilty," the NDC MP stated.
A tweet from Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said, "Documents from the Office of the President confirm that in 2021 alone, President Akufo-Addo authorised an astonishing GHc32million of taxpayer funds to be paid to Sir David Adjaye & Associates Ltd for consultancy on his National Cathedral project.”
“GHc57million so far; more to come”.

It is obviously clear that Mr. Ablakwa as an MP is incompetent, because a competent MP will try at least to make informed criticism when facts are there to feed on, if he doesn't want to be diabolic. Does he know what goes into planning and designing a cultural or historical building before the derived concepts are put on paper? The notification of requirements, modelling and all that is a lot of work. Yet Ablakwa seems only to know the cost of everything but work and the value of nothing. In other words, does he know the scope of the architectural work?
Mr. Ablakwa, please, take it from me, the NDC will never come to power on the basis of sheer propaganda and repitition of created falsehoods. I must say the communication of the NPP is very weak and that is why Ablakwa thinks he is faring well on that cheap propaganda. I can confidently bet he is living in a ***barred word***'s paradise. Ghanaians are aware of a lot of developments going on in Ghana, namely the construction of railways, TVET-education, international airports and many more. What the NDC, as an alternative government in waiting, will do better for the good people of Ghana is sadly lost in vile propaganda.
