The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined a number of qualities he believes Ghana's next leaders must possess to move the country forward.
Speaking at NPP International Conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday March 23, 2024, Dr. Bawumia said "Ghana needs problem solvers, generational thinkers and people with innovative ideas" and noted he is the leader.
"I am a problem solver and a generational thinker with innovative ideas. I have a solid track record as Vice President to prove it."
He added; "I have not been President before but through my role as Vice President, I have demonstrated that I will be a hardworking President and I have the vision to address generational problems confronting our sustainable development."
Drawing comparisons between himself and his main competitor, former President John Mahama, Dr. Bawumia stated unequivocally that considering his "track record, work ethics and vision", he is a right and better candidate.
"Former President Mahama has been President before but what was his track record? He failed. He failed to tackle corruption and many problems. Economically, if you look at all the economic data in the 4th Republic, Mahama has been the worst President."
"John Mahama doesn't represent change because he was there as President and he has been rejected twice in 2016 and 2020. I have not been President before and my record as Vice President is there for all to see. John Mahama represents the past and I represent the next chapter and future of our country."

He is always joking. Unserious man. Apuuuuuu
Owula! You are more than funny. How can you compare Mahama to Bawumia. You are totally funny. If Mahama win 2024 election Ghanaians will cry like a baby. We didn’t see Mahama dumso, dumso administration. Come to Canada and USA and see the problem people are facing. Even a lot Ghanaians students sleeping outside. You are joking yourself. You don’t know what you talking about.
@Albert, how on earth did you think Bawumia whose credibility has been severely damaged by himself and his boss could be endeared to Ghanaians? After all this display of incompetence and barbarism surrounding his elections as the flag bearer? You think Ghanaians owe anything to Akufo Addo to glorify his unpopular inferior tactics? Your best bet was Alan Keyeremanteng. You will see how NPP will be humiliated, the Assin bye elections will be far better results for the NPP.
@Albert, Ghanaians do not have short memories, in these elections, Ghanaians are properly weighing their options. If Nana Addo and Bawumia had performed reasonably well, no one would have thought of Mahama, even he himself would not have opted to be reelected. What were the undesirable things in Mahama's government, corruption, dumsor, cedi depreciation? The scale at which Nana Addo and Bawumiah's government has done the corruption is far worse, the cedi depreciation, they have done it far worse, they have added more terrible things to the economy, collapsing indigenous businesses, Mahama never did that. Committing haircuts on Ghanaians savings after halving the value of people's investment or capitals due to the spiking depreciation was murderous and Ghanaians cannot forget that. Now after Mahama solving dumsor, Nana Addo and Bawumia who failed to add just 1 megabit of energy to our grid but had the privilege to sell excess power from Mahama's intervention have managed to bring back dumsor and Ghanaians will not forgive them for it. The mafia kind of leadership that Nana Addo and Bawumia have spearheaded in NPP and now bringing same to the nation is alien to the values of Ghanaians and principles of democracy and we will not reward them for it. Bawumia and Akufo Addo can start advocacy foundation or trumutrumu in opposition.
Bawumia is not someone who is entirely new in this business. He has had the opportunity to contribute his best to the transformation of this country. In their first term, when things were relatively better, he was quick to tout his leadership and no one disputed that. Now we have also had the opportunity to assess the long term efficacy of his "best" and the outcome is very undesirable. Yes we need those qualities in the ideal candidate, but we know that as usual he and his mentor most of the times hit the right button in speeches and perform the opposite in practice. We may know have our ideal candidate in these elections, but certainly Bawumia is our worst option among the top contending candidates. Their incompetence level is behind Mahama's because the effects Ghanaians are experiencing now is unprecedented. They're very hypocritical and impractical, and their corruption tinge is unmatched. Lastly, their ideology is to prioritise the demands of their slave masters and not the wishes of Ghanaians. We'll be far better off with any other candidate.
“Facts are factual but comments are free”. How on earth do some of you guys think Mahama should be given the second chance to lead our nation?. How partisan politics can be so harmful. Ghanaians have short memories indeed.
Imagine, this man can not raise a chicken let alone transform Ghana
I may not fully like him, but looks like he hit the right tag lines. He hasn't been president bf, that's true; his track record as vice president is unmatched. No vice president in Ghana has been this active, let's give it to him; JM has been vice and president bf and was rejected twice, that's also true; JM doesn't represent change at all cos he has been president bf, that's also true. I believe he appears more tactful, innovative and visionary than JM and finally it follows if he says JM is the past and he represents the future cos JM has SERVED HIS TIME ALREADY. JM is FORMER PRESIDENT, and must just pass and allow others also bring on their fresh and relatively youthful ideas
This guy is a joke! Generational thinker mpo ni ena cedi from 4ghs to 12GHS plus! Thinker indeed!
