District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie South District, Clement Opoku Gyamfi says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party are not against mining in Ghana but rather illegal mining.
He set the record straight while contributing to Peace FM's Friday edition of "Kokrokoo" show.
Clarifying the issues, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, popularly called "CID", noted that illegal mining, locally called "galamsey", is outlawed in Ghana, hence there is absolutely no way that the government will support it.
CID stressed that the government abhors any activity that is illegal, therefore slammed those playing partisan politics with the matter.
"Nobody in the party or in this government is against mining because mining also contributes to our GDP. So, no government will say I am against mining. No! But every reasonable government will be against illegal mining because it is illegal. Any illegal activity cannot be entertained in this country", he reacted.
Meanwhile, over 100 soldiers have been deployed to the galamsey sites to clamp down on the illegal miners.
The operation dubbed "Operation Halt" is part of a renewed effort on the part of government to curb the menace.
