The late Kofi Ansah, a fashion legend has been honoured in the ETV Ghana Fashion Awards 2015 for his immense contribution to the fashion industry and the prestige of the nation.
Mr Ansah was the Founder and Past President of the Federation of African Designers and a 1979 graduate of the Chelsea School of Art with a first class honours degree in fashion design and distinction in design technology.
He designed the anniversary fabric for the [email protected] Golden Jubilee Celebration as well as costumes for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 African Cup of Nations staged in Ghana.
The event which was organised in Accra during the weekend was also meant to honour Ghanaian living legends and young talents in the fashion industry.
The categories that were awarded were Fashion Design Brand of the Year; Emerging Fashion Design Brand of the Year; Contribution to Fashion Education; Model of the Year; Celebrity Fashion Icon of the Year; Contribution to Fashion Photography; Fashion Retailer of the Year; Fashion Accessories Brand of the Year; and Contribution to Fashion Promotion and Marketing.
“Pistis” was awarded as the Fashion Design Brand of the Year which was the Ultimate Category.
Other awardees were “She by Bena” as Emerging Fashion Design Brand of the Year; “Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design” as Contribution to Fashion Education; “Julee Djouide Bocoum” as the Model of the Year; “Becca”, a Musician as Celebrity Fashion Icon of the Year.
“Emmanuel Bobie” was also honoured as Contribution to Fashion Photography; “Woodin Osu Branch” as Fashion Retailer of the Year; “M SIMPS” as Fashion Accessories Brand of the Year; and “Vlisco Ghana” as Contribution to Fashion Promotion and Marketing.
Nana Yaa, a highlife Musician and an Emerging young Ghanaian Artiste Adomaa entertained the audience at the ceremony.
Mr Akwasi Agyeman, Managing Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcast Company said the Television Station decided to partner the organisers of the Ghana Fashion Awards to ensure that Ghana Fashion gets its desired pride of place.
“As a station noted for the promotion of Ghanaian products and services, we believe our partnership will go a long way to help promote Ghana Fashion”, he said.
Mr Agyeman noted that the Awards night was another way of providing the unique platform to acknowledge and appreciate outstanding players in one of Ghana’s most vibrant industries.
The ceremony was sponsored by Ghana Textiles Print, X-men, GIHOC Distilleries, Mentos, Huawei, Ulti Malt, Rémi Martin, School of Fashion and Design and Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design.
Other supporters were Global Media Alliance, Yfm, and Global Cinemas.
