Actress and Producer Mrs. Akorfa Asiedu, has advocated the use of theatre arts in educating women on issues relating to women empowerment.
She believes women play a key role in development and must equally be encouraged to take up leadership positions.
Mrs. Asiedu made the call during a panel discussion at the 2nd International Conference on African Culture and Development in Accra. The forum discussed cultural issues hindering development and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
Participants were from Uganda, Zambia, South Pacific, Nigeria and Ethiopia. A panelist from Uganda, Grace Flavia Barya, said women nurture society and must therefore work against practices that make them subordinates.
She called on them to champion the fight against poverty and be very resourceful to that effect.
