Beautiful actress Yvonne Okyere has announced her comeback to the silver screen, after almost a decade of being away.
Yvonne made her TV debut in ‘Bloody Mary’, in which she starred alongside late Suzie Williams. Afterwards, Yvonne had stints with several series including ‘Remnants’ and Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Different Shades of Blue’ in 2006, which was the first TV series from Sparrow Productions. ’
Since then she starred in ‘About to Wed’, an award-winning TV comedy series, alongside John Dumelo, Prince David Osei, and Beverly Afaglo. Yvonne, who played the character of Anne Fofo earned her first award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in that series.
Yvonne took a break from acting in 2008 to pursue her other passion, Law, in the UK. Whiles in the UK, she did not shy away from the arts but joined the UK acting Guild Equity. She earned her position as treasurer for the Equity Yorkshire Branch due to hard work and honesty.
But Yvonne says she is now back to Ghana and to the acting business. “I can't express how much I missed acting while I was away. It felt as though a part of me was missing or had been taken away. So it feels so natural to be back and to be doing what I love most. I have various offers since being back but I haven't taken any on due to other projects I'm involved with and time constraints. I'm nearly done with my projects so who knows what will come up!"
With such great personality and talent, it is no surprise that her performance in her recent movie "Love Regardless" has earned her two nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Most Promising Actress at the maiden Golden Movie Awards.
The movie, which could be Yvonne’s biggest break yet, is about a struggling singer with a law degree who takes up a job at her friend’s father’s law firm. Events take a dramatic turn when her boss unexpectedly falls in love with her.
Yvonne plays the role of Rachel, daughter of Peter Atsu, played by Gbenga Titiloye. The movie also stars Zynell Lydia Zuh and Paulina Oduro.
Although Yvonne faces stiff competition, she has great conviction of picking up the plaques on Saturday. “I feel so honoured and humbled to be nominated in the same category as these amazing ladies and screen goddesses, however I believe in my abilities too and hope to bring some trophies home on Saturday night”.
A pre-nominee cocktail party will be held at the Oak Plaza Hotel tonight to precede the main event. The Golden Movie Awards itself comes off tomorrow Saturday, June 27, at the Banquet Hall (State House) at 7:30 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Surfline, Oak Plaza Hotel, UNAIDS, Sleek Make Up, Africa Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), 8 Ball Adcrew and Jack Daniels.
