Some Kumawood stars have threatened to vote against the New Patriotic Party(NPP) if they decide to build a proposed Ghana Film Village in Koforidua and not Kumasi.
Veteran movie producer, Samuel Nyamekye of Miracle Films, who is leading the agenda to make sure the historic project is taken to the Ashanti regional capital, has threatened to hit the streets with a massive demonstration to put their grievances across to the appropriate authorities.
Speaking on Peace Fm’s Entertainment Review, Samuel Nyamekye accompanied by actors Salinko and Big Akwes said they will "do whatever it takes including a demonstration to make sure their voices are heard".
According to the Miracle Films producer, Kumasi has the most vibrant movie industry in Ghana and deserves the honour to have the Ghana Film Village built there to boost the industry .
They added that they will incite the entire Kumasi movie stars, stakeholders and Ashanti region as a whole not to vote for the ruling NPP during the upcoming 2020 general elections should the government fail to adhere to their request.
A section of the 2019 budget reads, "the government has acquired 200 acres of land in the Eastern Region to build a Film Village". This, they believe is misplaced because the NPP’s stronghold is the Ashanti region where they get most of their votes in past elections and also because according to them, Kumawood is largest film community in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Mark Okraku Mantey, who is the President of Creative Arts Council, also spoke on the show and stated that the Kumawood stars should "use the right channel like petitioning the authorities" in charge with their grievances "rather than ranting on radio or going on demonstration".

They are also singing the same old chorus. If you do not do this or that for us, we will vote against you. What a bunch of jokers?.
and who need your scanty vote. we have grown pass this stage of threat
YOU GUYS MADE A GOOD POINT BUT THREATENING THE NPP GOVT IS UNWISE.I AM FROM OSEI KROM BUT I DONT SUPPORT YOUR THREATS. KOFORIDUA IS ALSO PART OF GHANA. BESIDES IT IS WIDELY HELD THAT MOST OF YOU GUYS IN KUMAWOOOD DID NOT VOTE FOR NANA ADDO AND THE NPP SO WHY THE FUSS? STACY BOAKYE AND THE LIKES MOF YOU OPENLY CAMPAIGNED AND VOTED FOR MAHAMA. WHY DIDNT YOU ASK HIM TO BUILD THIS FILM VILLAGE FOR YOU IN KUMASI WHEN HE WAS IN POWER? LIKE THE NAIJA GUYS SAY: " YOU SEE YOURSELF?"
@ ktz i think your comments act maturity and foresight. don't try to justify your ignorance. who told you that someone is interested in your English language ? the English speaking movies were around when Nigerians took over the entire industry. it took the effort of Agya koo and co to redeem the Ghana industry. Those guys at the studio are giving tangible reasons and we need to listen to them. which industry in Ghana is bigger than kumawood ?so if you want to do a film village where should you site it ? the geography of kumasi coupled with the size and contribution of kumawood to the industry makes ksi the ideal place for the such a project. By the way when and how did anyone lobby for the project. we can't lobby without bringing the entire stakeholders on board . This is nepotism
Look how GREED has clouded this folks judgement. Every good thing should be in Ashanti Region bolla talk. What about Eastern, Volta, Northern etc.Selfish species.
go ahead so people can not give reasonable grounds why things should be done without a threat? Go ahead and vote against him afterall you did not vote for him in 2016, yet God crowned Him. Nana does not need your votes in 2020. Stop this non sense
Quasiafuooooo nkoaaa na 3gu Kumawood mu. Salinko and Big Akwes, why don't you threaten Mahama to build a movie village for you and your cohorts? Besides what do you use your monies for after acting? Nonesenseeeeee peopleeeee
u never voted for this government. u can go to hell with ur threats. u want my tax money used to build a film village for u bcos of that n0ns3ns3 u produce. u no well at all.
Agyimifo. Can you threaten the government. Vote for Mahama instead and see whether he will build for you. This kind of mentality must stop in Ghana. Instead of convincing the government to do it now you wait for another 4 years to change the government. what about if its not done by the next admin. Even ndc cannot and will not be an alternative to npp. they only come to create ,loot/steal, share etc.
If you want the Film Village built in Kumasi then start acting in English to meet the international standards. Otherwise acting in only twi will remain only in Kumasi.
