Musicians in Ghana have been called upon to submit their works to the MUSIGA office so they can be uploaded on the MUSIGA portal so that they can sell their music online.
Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour, the current President of the Union made the call at an event to re-launch the MUSIGA website at The African Regent Hotel on Thursday July 24th 2012.
The re-launch was attended by a cross section of musicians, media personalities, representatives of UNDP, ECOBANK, FIPAG, AMRO and stakeholders in the music industry and chaired by ace musician and one time President of MUSIGA, Alhaji Sidiku Buari.
As part of the welcome address, the MUSIGA President spoke about the digital library project started by MUSIGA two years ago with support from the Norwegian Copyright Society (Norcode) and the realization that the contents of the library could be commercialized to provide additional revenue to the right owners.
He intimated that ECOBANK had provided seed money for the development of a new interactive website with multipurpose functions for the Union thus the reason for the re-launch of the website.
Touching further on the new site, he stated that it will allow members to register online and host their music and music videos as well.
Obuor thanked all the supporting organizations as well as the Government of Ghana, Dr Kofi Amoah and the service providers: GLOBA, Pro Imagination and Digicom-Ghana.
Various statements pledging their support were given by representatives from ECOBANK, World Bank and the UNDP. A presentation on the website was done by Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment.
Among the musicians present were Samini, Tic Tac, Bessa Simons, Supr. Kofi Sarpong, Thomas Frimpong, Nana Aboagye DaCosta and Hammer of The Last Two. The current Traditional Artist of the year at this years Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Guy One and Kesse gave various performances.
As the nation is nearing another election, Obuor also called on musicians to produce and submit peace songs to the Union. Twelve of the songs will be selected and compiled into an album by September.
MUSIGA will also launch the first ever Ghana Music Week Celebration and the second MUSIGA Grand Ball in a few months time.
