Mr Yaw Boateng, a Ghanaian born musician based in New Zealand and the leader of ZOHZOH would soon launch a new single in Ghana dubbed “I wan s--t”

According to Mr. Boateng “I had a very awkward real life experience a year ago with the public toilets system in Ghana which gave birth to the song ".

He noted that many Ghanaians and other travellers experience this everyday but they are too shy or not confident enough to speak about "s--t".

It is a problem that people do not like to talk about. But it goes to the heart of ensuring good health, a clean environment and fundamental human dignity for billions of people, Mr Boateng indicated.

He said available statistics showed that 2.5 billion people around the world currently lack access to safe sanitation or improved toilets, while around 700,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.

According to WaterAid in Ghana, a non-governmental organisation in water, sanitation and hygiene, 10.5 million women and girls lack safe and adequate sanitation. 2.3 million out of this number do not have access to a toilet at all.

About 4.8 million Ghanaians are said to practise open defecation or “free-range” every day.

“The s--t is everywhere” water bodies get polluted everyday and this is a serious environmental problem in my country Ghana and other big cities in Africa, he said.

“I am dedicating this song to raise public awareness in Ghana on Saturday 21st December at REPUBLIC BAR-OSU
