Virtuoso singer and dancer, Ebenezer Asare known in showbiz as Slim Buster says his return to Ghana is mainly to revitalize the ‘dead’ highlife and hiplife music.

Buster disclosed that dancehall and azonto songs have taken over the indigenous music.

“I’m coming back to see if we can really progress with highlife and hiplife. Now look at hiplife, it’s really struggling…. Dancehal and Azonta have taken over.”

Speaking with Sammy Flex in London, the ‘Masanaba’ hit singer opined that his reason for leaving Ghana to the UK was because of the power crisis (dumsor) and has promised to return in February 2017.

“I left Ghana because of the power crisis. I started having problems with lights, I was spending so much money on fuel because some of us can’t sleep without lights. I was filling my huge plant in addition to my two cars so it was a bit too much for me. I decided to relocate from Ghana and concentrate on my family here in UK.”

He commended Dancehall greats Shatta, Samini and Stonebwoy for their contributions in making Ghanaian music a force to reckon with.

Slim Buster added that though most of these Ghanaian artistes are at their peak, there is something missing which he expects the celebrated musicians to do but nobody has been able to do.

He continued that “I’ve to go back and fill that gap and speed them up. When I speed them up they will noticed that yes the old man is back, let’s follow him.”

Slim released his maiden album, but discovered later, that it did not conform to what pertained in the country at the time. He realised that in order to make an impression on the Ghanaian music scene, one needed to work extra hard.

In 2000, Slim released the album, Masanaba, which was an instant hit. He followed it with Eye Fe Keke in 2001, which featured the track, Mina.

In 2002, he came out with Baby, which won an award for best video at the 2002 Ghana Music Awards. In 2004, he came out with the album, Marsherita, which caught on well because of its love-laden lyrics. Marsherita won the best Hiplife Dance Choreography award at the Royal Awards.

Since joining the music industry, Slim Busterr has proved, in no uncertain terms, that he reigns supreme among his contemporaries, and continues to make giant strides on the music scene through his creativity.
