A music festival dubbed “Ga Mashie Kpanlogo Fiesta 2009” was last night held in Accra as part of activities marking World Tourism Day. The aim of the programme was to rejuvenate the Kpanlogo dance and music among the Ga people.
12 cultural troupes mainly in the Ga Mashie area participated in the maiden programme initiated by the Ga Mashie Development Agency in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
In an address, the Programme Director of the Ga Mashie Development Agency, Nii Teiko Tagoe said the programme will be organized quarterly to serve as a tourism attraction to the Ga Mashie area.
He said plans are underway to rehabilitate the Ussher Fort in Accra to serve as an amphitheater for the various groups to perform. He said the people of the Ga State have various dance forms and music which can be promoted and developed as part of their cultural heritage.
