ASHLEY COLE is wearing his wedding ring again and has told pals: "I'm close to winning back CHERYL." The England love-rat has started putting the diamond-encrusted band on the ring finger of his RIGHT hand.
He has been ringing Cheryl to comfort her over her US X Factor sacking. And he is insisting to pals that he is close to being reunited with his "only true love".
Chelsea defender Cole, 30, removed the 200,000 ring after The Sun revealed his sordid fling with hairdresser Aimee Walton in 2008.
Cheryl, 27, ditched her own 150,000 sparkler.
But Cole was snapped wearing his band as he posed for photos with fans after an England training session at London Colney, Herts.
He also wore it as he left West London's Chinawhite club. A friend said: "It's his way of saying to Cheryl that she is his only true love and he thinks they are close to getting back together.
"Ash is convinced they have a future once again as man and wife."
Devastated Cheryl has gone into hiding since Simon Cowell dropped her from the US X Factor and she refused to reprise her role as a judge in the British version.
Cole is currently with his England team-mates in preparation for tomorrow's Euro 2012 qualifying clash with Switzerland at Wembley.
He had planned a trip to LA with pals next week but friends said Cheryl had asked him not to go after her time in America came to an abrupt end.
The trip has led to further speculation a secret meeting was planned to be held in the States.
Confidantes of Cole also said he had spoken openly of plans to move abroad with Cheryl after his retirement in "three to four years". The source added: "Ashley knows a reunion would not be accepted by most of the public because of the way he treated Cheryl. "He says they've discussed moving abroad when he has finished football and she is in a position where she can work anywhere.
"He is very much in love with her and she is not giving him the cold shoulder. Far from it." After we revealed Cole's affair in 2009 he bought Cheryl a 160,000 diamond. He also bought a new ring for himself to symbolise their fresh start.
But in February 2010 we exposed a further string of affairs that led to a split and then divorce in September. Speaking about how much longer he has left in football Cole said yesterday: "I turned 30 last December and that seems crazy to me because I certainly don't feel old.
"I reckon I've got a few more years in me yet. I've definitely got at least three seasons and maybe more."
