RECORD numbers of people have visited Buckingham Palace this summer — to see Kate Middleton's wedding dress. More than 354,000 have joined the £17.50 tour since the palace opened on July 23 — 20 per cent up on last year.

The total is expected to rise past half a million before the doors close again on October 3 when the Queen returns from Balmoral in Scotland.

That will bring in about £8million with part going to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding charity fund. The magnificent Cartier Halo tiara, lent by the Queen to Kate on her wedding day, is also on display at the palace.

Other exhibits include Kate's hand-made shoes, her diamond earrings specially commissioned as a personal gift from the Middleton family, and a replica of her bouquet.

A spokesman for the Royal Collection said: "This year has been our highest attendance to date. The wedding dress proved very popular."
