When President Mills� death was announced on Tuesday July 24, 2012 the immediate reaction from the entertainment industry was countless tribute songs, various performances in honour of the President and numerous tributes through the one week celebration to the final three days Funeral.
Starting from Wednesday August 8, 2012, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) put together a free three-day musical memorial concert interspersed with theater sketches to Sunday August 10 at the Ghana International Trade Fair Center.
The three-day concert witnessed a mix of hiplife, reggae, and highlife genres across the gospel and secular divide.
Some of the artistes who performed over the three-day period included Tic Tac, Akoo Nana, Pope Skinny, Edem, Obour, Pat Thomas, Supt. Kofi Sarpong, Asem, Stay J, Kokoveli, D-Black, 4X4, D-Cryme, Nyhiraba Kojo, Adane Best, King David, King Ayisoba, Guy One, Praye, Dadie Opanka, Bessa Simons, CK Mann, Jewel Ackah, AB Crenstil, Ras Caleb, Cheezy Wailer, Tinny, Eduwodji, R2Bees and Samini.
The Trade Fair concert was emceed by Lexis Bill and Funny Face and it also witnessed an all star performance of the "Yeedi Awerehuo" tribute song by the artistes.
Several other Celebrities including; Van Vicker, Agya Koo, Adwoa Smart, Akosua Agyapong, Bob Smith Jnr., Amandziba, KSM, Jackie Appiah, Kalsoume Sinare, Funny Face, Kwami Sefa Kayi, Ekow Smith Asante, among others were also spotted at the State House, where the late president was laid in state for two days, to pay their last respect to him.
The Winneba Youth Choir, the Mass Choir, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Florence Obinim, National Symphony Orchestra Ghana, The National Dance Company, Wulomei, Abibigromba Theater Group, renowned Poets among others entertained Members of Parliament, Ministers, Senior Citizens, family members, International guests among others at the forecourt of the State House where a two days Vigil was organized as part of the funeral.
Musicians, Actors, Actresses, Radio and TV Personalities, Dancers, Producers, Directors, the various Associations and the whole entertainment fraternity gathered again at the Independence Square on Friday to conclude the late Professor Mills� journey to eternity.
From all indications, the entertainment industry also did their bit to support the national mourning from the day he died to when he was finally buried.
