The Australian High Commission has given support to Bran Nue Dae, a musical comedy to feature in the Inaugural Accra International Film Festival to share the values of forgiveness and reconciliation with its Ghanaian counterparts.

A statement signed by Mr Walter Kudzodzi, Public Affairs Officer at the High Commission, copied to Ghana News Agency on Friday, said: Bran Nue Dae is a coming-of-age musical comedy that celebrates family, forgiveness and reconciliation, set against the spectacularly beautiful Australian landscape.

It said Australia was delighted to share some aspects of its culture that has made impact on its people through the film, Bran Nue Dae.

The statement said the film deals with issues relating to indigenous Australia, and the interaction between indigenous and non-indigenous culture.

It said: Indigenous culture is diverse and strong, and makes a vital contribution to Australias national identity.

The statement cited Mr Tim Millikan, First Secretary at the Australian High Commission, as saying that it was an opportunity to showcase our film industry, an important part of creative Australia.

He said the Australian artists had played a vital role in shaping and reflecting Australias image and promoting Australias creativity.

Our creative industries have built a global reputation for innovation, talent and energy, Mr Millikan said.

The screening of the Australian Film Bran Nue Dae was part of the inaugural Accra International Film Festival showcased on Wednesday at the Silverbird Cinema.
