After 10 days of search around the Volta River estuary at Ada and beyond, the Marine Police who were leading the search exercise ended their intensive operations yesterday Wednesday to locate missing hiplifer, Castro and his lady companion, Janet Bandu, who are believed to have drowned during a Jet Ski accident on Sunday, July 6.

According to reports, even though the police search team has officially ended its operations, it had sent word out to the neighbouring coastal areas to be on the lookout and inform the police of any new developments.

Castro was in the company of his friend and captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, who together with some friends had lodged at the Peace Holiday Resort in Ada for the weekend.

On that fateful day that the incident happened, Castro was said to have taken one of the Jet Skis available out on a cruise on the Volta River with Janet.

The two never returned from the “trip” afterwards and it is feared that they have been drowned, particularly when the Jet Ski on which they went out for the cruise was found after the disappearance of the two.

Curiously, since the incident, many interested persons have read meaning into the “saga” with some spiritualists giving their own interpretations and predictions of the incident.

One self acclaimed spiritualist and agent of Maame Water, Dzifah Awaga, who granted interviews on many of the radio stations last week claimed that Castro was not dead, but had been carried away by his Maame Water wife for her own reasons.

According to this woman, Ghanaians should stop grieving, as Castro was not dead yet and that the more we grieved, the more likely that he would not return from his sojourn to the marine lands.

Until the disclosure of her identity, Janet Bandu had been speculated to be an agent of Maame Water who had taken Castro to her world under the sea, one that her family later came to refute.

24 year old Janet Bandu is said to be an upcoming actress who took part in Multi TV’s reality show, I’m in Love with Bomaye, in 2012. She is a graduate of Ghallywood Academy of Film Acting and until her “disappearance” was a fashion designing student at Mayfair Designing at Cantonments and the last of five children.

In an interview with one of the local TV stations last week, Janet’s mother, Madam Lariba Bandu, said she had spoken to her daughter on Thursday and Janet had informed her of her impending trip but didn’t say where she was going.

But as an upcoming actress who went on locations to shoot movies, she suspected it was one of those trips until she was hit with the news of her daughter’s drowning that fateful Sunday.

A night vigil which was expected to be held for Castro and Janet at Ada last Sunday was called off because Castro’s family opted out of the occasion on grounds that they were given a late notice.

Born Theophilus Tagoe, Castro shot to fame in 2003 with his debut album, Sradenam, in 2003. He earned the accolade, “The Destroyer” which was attached to his showbiz name because most of his songs became instant hits.

Castro endeared himself to many last year when he released Odo Pa which featured Asamoah Gyan and Kofi Kinaata. The song earned him the Highlife artiste of the Year at this year’s Ghana Music Awards.

“It has always been my prayer that God will bless me so that I can help the society, family and unearth talents that are hidden.

“My dream is to help bring talented but hidden young artistes to limelight,” he told Showbiz in an interview last year December.
