Ghana's Afro pop musician, Ephraim, has accused the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) of not having the interest of musicians at heart.
According to the songwriter, Ghanaian musicians are not even paid royalties but their music is enjoyed in public places and even abroad for free.
Speaking on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM, he told host DJ Premier that: “Artistes are not paid royalties [but] our songs are being played outside the country. I have stopped following MUSIGA for some reasons and I made it clear to them. MUSIGA doesn’t really have young artistes at heart; the top management members of MUSIGA only think about themselves and don’t think about the youth doing music.”
Ephraim further alleged that MUSIGA was sometimes selective when dealing with musicians. He recalled: “When Obour came to power, he sent me a personal message about a MUSIGA week seminar, they also invited the Tema Boys but when the show was about to happen, they forgot all of us and called only big artistes because they had the fan base and paid them”.
“When it comes to money, they know who to call, but I think it is not fair, so I have personally told them nobody should ever call me for MUSIGA meetings or anything that has to do with the association.”
Ephraim, who is also a music producer, has produced hit songs like Sex Machine by Ruff ‘N’ Smooth, Fly With Me by Rana, Banana Sweet by Castro, and Funny Face, Away by VIP, among others.
