A planned musical concert show by Samini at the Tamale sports stadium has been cancelled following the exchange of gunfire between two feuding groups in the city.
Sources say the shooting was as a result of a clash between family members of a woman accused of witchcraft and youth of Dagbandaba Fon.
The youth were forcing the alleged witch to go and see a witch doctor so she could be exorcised; however, their efforts were fiercely resisted by family members of the alleged witch.
The youth claimed they were working in accordance with a custom of the Dagombas which says a witch doctor can force out truth from a person who denies accusations of sorcery. However, children of the accused, in an attempt to prevent the youth from arresting the woman fired several gunshots, resulting in a serious scuffle.
The incident, according to sources, happened at about 10pm when the aggrieved youth stormed the residence of the alleged witch to drag her to the witch doctor.
No casualty was recorded. The Tamale Police, according to reports say they are yet to be informed about the incident.
Organisers of the show, Smile Multimedia said the show was stopped because of fears of reprisal attack.
