A former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to protect the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei, and Constance Ama Emefa Edjeani-Afenu, the first female to attain the rank of Brigadier General in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The EC boss is facing impeachment as a group of staff at the commission has petitioned the president for her removal over fraud and financial malfeasance allegations.
Apart from the petition against Mrs Osei, the former minister said she has also sighted an article about Brigadier-General Edjeani-Afenu which does not augur well for her status as a woman rising in the Ghana Armed Forces.
“Please protect these women as you would your sisters. I have read a petition and an article by a soldier online and I am really upset and horrified,” she said in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 20.
She was of the view that “the journey to 30% Affirmative Action for women is a long one” and those in positions of higher authority need support.

Dear H. E. President Nana Akufo-Addo,
Please protect these women as you would your sisters. I have read a petition and an article by a soldier online and I am really upset and horrified.
Please leave them alone.
These women are intelligent and have earned the positions they occupy.
The journey to 30% Affirmative Action for women is a long one. ...
This is a personal request/favour I am making to you.
Thank you, Sir.

Should they be protected because they are women? that which is wrong is wrong. We should allow the system to work, so we all learn from it.
AAAAAAHHHHH so because she is a woman she is above the law???
You see just as typical of NDC tactics is playing on emotions. What do these two women need protection from?Did Loretta Lamptey need protection when the petition for her removal came up?Dzifa never complained because it suited her party NDC. Anyway whatever happening to the EC boss is according to the constitution so it will go on till the final outcome.Concerning the woman army general if what is being written about her is not factual it will collapse when it is put to strict proof. So Dzifa stop your partisan appeal you are worsening the issue for the two women
Dzifa if you don't have anything to do, the President has a lot to do Okay ! The President should protect the EC boss for the sake of it, are you serious?
So, becos of affirmative action for women any bola bola incompetent woman should be protected by Nana Addo ?, pls madam Gomashie this is not how affirmative action on women should work at gh.
I think that the President has no problem promoting females if they are qualified. In fact, Brigadier General Constance Ama Emefa Edjeani-Afenu was promoted in March this year and so I think that the rules of engagement is intact and it is upheld by all.I think that politicizing promotion in the army and other services is rather dangerous for us as a country. I know that it is only the echelon of the military that are often changed.
IF YOU HAVE ANY TANGIBLE REASON TO DEFEND THEM, BRING IT OUT AND STOP THIS GENDER N-O N-SEN-SE. ARE YOU SAYING JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE WOMEN, WE SHOULD LET THEM BREAK THE LAW AND GET AWAY WITH IT? SHOULD WE ALLOW THE LIKES OF DZIFA ATTIVOR, BETTY MOULD-IDDRUSU GO SCOT FREE FOR LOO---TTTING OUR MONEY? IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY, PLEASE GO AWAY.
Madam if the EC Boss is not doing what the constitution says she should do, WHY than should the President protect her .
Why, Mahama the Commander in chief is around to protect her so why your worry?
Gomashie, you are a disappoîntment! After reading whatever you did online about the soldier, did you do your checks? I do not have anything against any of these women nor do I know the Brigadier personally, but what have they done to have their shadows hunting them? Are they the only women in powerful positions? Why are all such women not been hounded? I am a woman too and some of us get too power drunk when in office and when the complaints start coming, we claim "we are our own enemies". Let's do the right things once in office, and we can sleep peacefully.
