Rapper Edem says he has been marginalised and underrated over the years because he hails from the Volta Region.
The rapper, born Denning Edem Hotor, is of the strong conviction that he is often paid less in the industry because of where he comes from.
The CEO of Volta Regime Music Group (VRMG) who hails from Dzodze in the Volta Region made the comments during an interview on Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM with Lexis Bill.
“I feel underrated, at a point I feel we are doing much more than we are credited for…I’ve been marginalised but it just doesn’t get to me,” he explained.
To buttress his point, Edem said, “we’ve signed deals before where I was the least paid because I am from Volta Region and they pass comments like ‘your place is not big’.”
“Companies don’t want to go to my Region,” he stressed but noted that, there are only but a handful of events such as Miss Ghana and Ghana’s Most Beautiful that tours the Region because they are national events.
“You’ve never seen Mentor go to my Region to do talent search, you’ve never seen Stars of the Future scout anybody in my Region,” he said.
Edem believes that dialoguing on such issues is the way forward so "people change their perception."
“So with this platform, Mr President, I want you to build a stadium in my Region. It’s quite important when I go to Volta Region, I don’t have a stadium for my people to play football so President Akufo-Addo, my name is Edem I need you to build a stadium in my region,” he appealed.
Following Shatta Wale’s visit to the Flagstaff House to meet President Akufo-Addo, the rapper concluded that, “also, I know you are a fair father so next year is my birthday so I will expect an invite,” and “I want a Lexus.”

Eeeeiii this people, hhmmm. Ahuoyaaa nkoaaa, papa biaaa nnim.
Edem, companies (even those headed by Voltarians) don't go to the Volta region because of the same traits, loose talk, stereotyping, tribalistic and hardline stands of the people from the area. Most tribes feel unwelcome when you are in the Volta region. Whilst you can find Voltarians in almost every hamlet in other regions, the same cannot be said of the Volta region. Can an Asante man live alone in the isolated hamlet in the Volta region? Yet people from other regions especially Akans, are the "most wicked" in Ghana, according to the Voltarians. The irony though is Voltarians hard stayed in Akan communities for ages and nothing happens to them, take farmlands on share cropping but pay nothing, only to scare our fathers of their share on the notion that "I am from the Volta Region and I will go to my hometown". to digress a little, take the creation of regions for example, why is it that only the Volta region that its people are against its division? who would benefit from such division? Akans?. Please some of us have good friends from Volta region and feel sad when they, even intellectuals, show such tendencies. Came again. If it is an Akan artiste who made this comment against a seat of govt headed by a Voltarian, hell would have broken loose. Me ye Mfantsenyi naanso mepe obiara asem.
Why not Locomotive engine but Lexus.
Finally, you have delivered your baby.....TRIBALISM. You started with Ayigbe Edem and now you are marginalized. Your problem is your mindset. Did you ever celebrate your birthday under JM? I won't be surprised if Shatta's mum is partly from Volta Region. People like you makes the region unattractive Think national, continental and global and you will be rewarded accordingly

Ayigbe man and envy. This is unbelievable. You are paid less because you come from Volta Region? Check yourself and stop being a tribal bigot. If you are of value, you will be paid accordingly. Should the president invite every musician to the Flagstaff House? The presidency is not for concert. Think again and stop displaying inferiority complex. I personally dont like any of you so called musicians of today, and I dont know where Shata Wale or whatever he calls himself comes from. But I dont think that guy was invited because of where he comes from. If he hailed from Eastern or Ashanti Region, I wonder what haters like you would have said. It is a good thing to request the President to build a stadium in the Volta region but your approach is so wrong and smells of ethnocentrism.
Ah Edem per your logic stoneboy i also from the same region why is he making it and signing big deals. Massa we say brightening the corner where u are. To me is about the region u come from wai. Look at King Ayisoba have u heard him complaining about where he comes from? But he started all the way from Australia and he is making it. If i want to want mention names it will on and on and on. My little advise to my dear friend Edem is re-brand your self again and God will open his arms for you
Help to make the region attractive and stop the unnecessary ranting. Organise shows there every month for free.
Edem may your wish come through. AMEN.
DISAPPOINTED IN HIM IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT..........TWEAAA I GUESS HE NEVER CELEBRATED HIS BIRTHDAY UNDER THE MAHAMA REGIME. WHY WERE THESE APPEAL MADE TO MAHAMA? ALL SHATTAWALE HATERS GO BURN!!
