The annual Kojo Antwi Christmas fiesta of music and fun is definitely on, this time on Boxing Day, December 26 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.

He has christened it, “The precious gift of love concert” and marks a shift from the usual 24th night bash.

“You bet I’ll be playing. And yes, it’s on the 26th December and as usual I’m not coming alone. We have a mix of great performers in the line-up acts for the night and we are coming with the performances that make the occasion worthwhile”, the Mr Musicman told Graphic Online in a close-up interview.

Trust Kojo Antwi to keep the lid on who else is playing with him but he assures “they are a great blend of seasoned and up-and-coming musicians who know their trade and really entertain.”

The annual Kojo Antwi 24th Nite bash has regularly been a sure item on the music and Christmas menu each year that many look up to, and the music legend says it remains on the menu as long as there is breadth.

The wordsmith in deep thought

But why the change in date if one may ask? “Oh, yea, over the years it’s been fixed for 24th, this time around we want to be mixing the dates to allow for some flexibility. We will revert to 24th, have other different dates and do different things.

“You see, a lot of people feel oh we haven’t heard from Kojo for some time. My life is music, my life revolves around music and when you don’t hear of me coming out with a new record, it doesn’t mean I’m not doing music. I’m still doing music, I’m trying to come out with a book because some of my ideas I think I need to document, I’m also trying to build an incubation centre to try to train some of the young ones to have access to musical instruments that they can learn to play because we are losing out on players of instruments.”

That idea of having musicians master musical instruments feeds into a bigger plan to have Ghana export musicians of great talent and he says even though, “it’s happening already, I believe we can do better with an institution that we can export musicians.”

Kojo Antwi assures patrons of the December 26 live concert to expect firsthand sampling of great songs on his soon to launch album featuring a controversial track “Supremo” that pitches the legend for the first time in what he says is no turf war, plus the classic “Ateteakoma”, the story of the heartless heartbreaker who wouldn’t even show you a ‘yellow card’ but comes with a straight red.

“The feedback from the songs have been great and I’m happy people are enjoying them, sure they can look up to the album (of about 14 songs) when we launch.”

He is also billed to perform in Kumasi on December 30th at Miklin Hotel and in Sunyani on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2018 at the Centre for National Culture.
