Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur is unenthused about the wide circulation of a divorce petition filed by her husband, lawyer Tony Lithur.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, she described as ‘unfortunate’ the circulation of matters concerning her divorce in public.“It is unfortunate that a private family matter should now become a subject of public discussion.”
Documents of lawyer Tony Lithur’s petition for divorce with Nana Oye Lithur leaked on Tuesday evening, sparking a lot of social media discussions over the possible reason for the breakup of the marriage.
Several tabloids suggested that Tony Lithur had initiated the divorce proceedings because has been suffering physical abuse from Nana Oye Lithur.
But a statement from Nana Oye Lithur on Wednesday said the allegations were untrue.
“Everyone who knows me, and everything I stand for will known that the unfortunate allegations against me cannot be true,” the statement said.
“I have a firm belief in the legal system and in God Almighty to vindicate the truth,” the statement added.
She said the situation is a trying time for her family and called for prayers for the couple’s children.
“There is no doubt that these are trying times for my family; and I would like to count on your prayers, especially for our children,” she said.
Meanwhile, Tony Lithur in an earlier statement confirmed the leaked document but urged the public to accord him some privacy to deal with the matter.

Oye Lithur as much as I feel it's unfortunate for this divorce to happen, I have a firm belief that you are hostile to your husband and others. You believe in yourself as also being a lawyer so can't be counted an underdog, but what you forget it, the Bible ask every woman no exception to be humble to her husband.I don't belong to your part to know who you are, but I can see and believe the posture of your husband shows him to be very gentle. He has tolerated you for long I think and can't take it anymore, you were hostile to even your deputy ministers who were all women, look at how you treated Miss Apoh your deputy minister and the good Samaritan lady who rescued a baby from his/her deranged mother at a bus stop, which ended the lady being arrested by your instruction. What goes around, comes around. Today, you asking for prayers to keep you going in your challenging times, you've forgotten how arrogant and authoritative you were sometime ago to the same people you asking to pray for you. I say "kafra" to those housemaids who went through your draconian hands. Ghanaian women with good education must learn from this lesson, that the men you marry are also born by women and must be respected and treated well.I'm against divorce due to the bad impact on the children but living with a Jezebel is a hell. MAY GOD VISIT THAT HOME !
