Ms Ama Amponsah Mensah, a finalist in the 2012 Ghanas Most Beautiful competition, has called for the development of appropriate policies to support people with disabilities.
Ms Mensah, who was the first runner-up in the competition, said this on Saturday during the launch of her Autism and Intellectual Disability (AID) project.
The event held in Accra was an integrated programme designed to create awareness and raise funds for the inclusion of people living with Intellectual Disability and Autism into mainstream society.
Ms Mensah said the alarming trend of utter neglect and policy support inadequacies towards persons living with disabilities has influenced her to embark on the project.
The era when an entire family could be thrown into a state confusion because their relation has been diagnosed with autism and intellectual disability should be over with the advent of this project she hoped.
Dr Abu Sakara Forster, the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Presidential Candidate for the 2012 election, said people should accept people living autism and intellectual disability rather than stigmatize them adding that everyone had a role to play in this regard.
