Monica Amekoafia (30 June 1934 – 24 June 1990) holds a significant place in Ghanaian history as the first winner of the Miss Ghana pageant in 1957, where she proudly represented Trans-Volta Togoland as Contestant Number 9. Her victory not only marked a milestone in the pageant’s history but also led to her nickname becoming synonymous with the Volta Region, as residents affectionately refer to themselves as “Number 9” in homage to her legacy.
