Yfm has partnered with MTN to present a welcome package to tertiary students from selected institutions. Dubbed Akwaaba 2011, the goal is to bring together students from various tertiary institutions across Ghana to a fun filled weekend full of activities such as movie night, live program interaction and a beach party.
The weekend marks the climax of the MTN iFest student activations during which teams from Yfm and MTN visited the Legon Campus, Accra Polytechnic, Valley View University and Takoradi Polytechnic throughout the month of September. During the iFest month students got to win amazing prizes including modems, T. Shirts, airtime vouchers and many more items.
Richard Acheampong, General Manager for Marketing Communications, MTN Ghana said, the goal of the i-Fest activation was to generate awareness about the importance of the internet and to promote consumer usage. The campaign also sought to project the benefits of internet usage in enriching businesses, education, personal life and professional career development.
The General Manager of Yfm, Nana Kwame Osei Sarpong, expressed his excitement about the success of the program. “Yfm is committed to bringing quality entertainment to the youth and we look forward to sustaining the initiative”, he said.
The official Weekend Rave Akwaaba 2011 is scheduled from September 29 to October 2 at the University of Ghana Campus. The theme for this year, which is the maiden edition, is ‘Party Smart’. The theme seeks to encourage students to focus on their academic work while enjoying campus life.
Akwaaba 2011 kicks off with a movie night at Silverbird Cinema on Thursday night and this will be attended by winners of the i-Fest competitions as well as other student groups. On Saturday, there will be a live radio broadcast of the “Y Campus Express” Radio Show, under the theme Straight A’s this semester”.
